Whether it’s a date with a cute boy, or just a couple of friends, there are some essential fall pieces that are required for every college girl’s wardrobe this season. Layering is the first key to a successful fall evening – as we all know when the sun goes down in Pittsburgh, you never know what sort of temperature you’re going to encounter. But this adds intrigue to your outfit because the more pieces there are to look at the more interesting it will be!

The first essential piece to get those heads turning on the street is a sparkly skirt. Glitter is a big trend for the fall season; so don’t be afraid to sparkle. If the skirt is a little too much for you, add some glitter to your nails. This sparkly gold polish from butter is one of my favorites. Next up, a classy chiffon button-down blouse. This piece is incredibly versatile – it can be worn tucked into a skirt such as the one shown for a nighttime look, or dressed down with a pair of jeans and your favorite boots or flats for a daytime look. Believe me, you’ll be glad you have one.

Another essential piece? A black leather bomber jacket. I wear mine over absolutely everything during the fall season. It’s not that heavy, so you won’t look like you’re ready to face a winter tundra, but it’s also a great windbreaker and waterproof. I love to wear mine over really girly, feminine pieces (such as this skirt) because it helps balance out the outfit so that it’s not too “Barbie-like”. It also looks great with a pair of black patent leather heels and floral dress, once again taking a really feminine piece and making it a bit more manageable.

My absolute favorite part of this outfit is the shoes. A bright colored pair of strappy stilettos is a definite go-to this season – adding a bit of color to your step and definitely turning heads. Personally, I love this dark plum color for the fall season. It has a musty feel, yet, portrays elegance and grace. Gold jewelry is another staple piece this season. All of the leaves are turning a flashy gold tone, why shouldn’t you? Grab a chunky gold necklace, such as the one shown, or a bracelet or cocktail ring and rock it. Gold chandelier earrings with any outfit are also a great trick – I wear mine with sweatpants just to take to attention off the fact I didn’t get dressed that day. Don’t be afraid to switch out your everyday silver accessories for a bit of gold, or mix them together!

This fall season is all about the mixing of trends – something girly with something hardcore, something colorful with something plain, and all different fabrics all mixed together. Overall, just be creative. Try layering pieces you already have in your closet that you never thought you’d wear together; you might be surprised by the outcome!
