“Oops. Sorry about last night…”

Like most college students, you’ve probably had to send that embarrassing “morning after” text. You know, the Oh-My-God-Why-Did-I-Text-That-Person-Last-Night-Oh-My-God. Self-control, who needs it?

Luckily, app makers are here to save the night… or text. We’ve reviewed two “Drunk Texting” apps that claim to save you from sending that embarrassing heartfelt text to your lab partner you’re secretly crushing on.

1. Drunk Dial No! – $0.99

The basis: Blocks numbers of those who you don’t want to call or text. You can set the time for how long you want their number to be blocked from one hour to forty-eight hours. Even better — when you go to find them in their contacts, their number is changed to total gibberish.

The app doesn’t have to be running — you can swipe it away and their number is STILL blocked. You can call and text those in your favorites list, BUT if you go to their information in your contact list, it’s blocked— for all extensive safety purposes we assume (don’t drunk dial Mom!).

The Verdict: GREAT APP, HIGHLY SUGGEST

2. Drunk Text Savior – Free

The basis: Texting through the app; it’s basically a gauge at how much of a gibberish text you’ve composed. A warning pops up, cautioning you that your message makes NO sense.

When the gauge gets all the way full, it tells you to “PUT THE PHONE DOWN.” After the warning pops up, if you still want to send that risky text, you can–it will copy the message you have typed and take you to your messages.

This app has a Facebook and Twitter feature — the same warning for each.

You can call a taxi, and set a designated driver’s number beforehand.

The Verdict: So, so. Doesn’t completely prevent you from sending texts, though. You just have a lot more hurdles you have to jump over, and you have to go through the app if you want it to catch your spelling errors.

We found that these are really the only two apps on the market that aid in texting or calling. If we had to choose, we’d definitely say bite the bullet and spend the dollar on the app that might save you from that awkward lab session!

Remember: Have fun, but be safe!
