DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts That Everyone Will Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show that special someone in your life how much you truly care for them, but it can be stressful to decide what kind of gift to get and how much to spend on it. If you’re shopping on a budget and are struggling to find the perfect present for your significant other, consider making one by hand. A handmade gift allows you to personalize your message and it shows the other person that you put time and effort into creating something just for them. Check out these gift ideas that any valentine would love!

1. Framed Photo

Although it might seem simple, a framed photo of you and your partner is a thoughtful gift that they will love. Your significant other will be able to place it in their apartment, dorm or house and think of you every time they look at it. If you and your partner have a special song, you could make the present even more special by handwriting the song lyrics around the border of the photo.

2. Personalized Playlist

This gift might require a little more time, but it will be worth it when you see how your partner cherishes it. Who wouldn’t love receiving a playlist made just for them? Take some time and create a list of songs. Pick artists that your significant other loves and consider even make them multiple playlists that they could listen to in various situations. Of course, this could be made digitally but if your partner has a CD player, consider making a hard copy that you could decorate.

3. A Memory Jar

This is definitely the easiest gift to create and it is very thoughtful. Decorate two empty mason jars – one for you and one for your valentine – and label them as memory jars. Give this present alongside small post-it notes. Every time you and your significant other do something together, you both can write down the memory and stick it in the jar. Then, a year later, you can both spend the next Valentine’s Day going through your memory jars and reminiscing on all the fun times you had together.

4. Date Ideas Jar

To make this unique gift you will need a mason jar and different colored Popsicle sticks. Each color will be a date category such as “free,” “inexpensive” and “pricey.” Then, you can come up with date ideas for each category and stick them in the jar. The next time you and your significant other want to do something together you can simply pick from the jar and plan your next date!

5. “Things I Love About You” Card Deck

All you need for this gift is a deck of cards. Start out by punching a hole on all of them so they can later be put on a keychain. On each card, write one thing you love about the other person. Your partner will love reading through all of the things you have written and they will reach for it when they miss you!

6. A Handwritten Note

The most romantic gesture, a handwritten note, is often overlooked. It can be hard to express your feelings through an object. In a note, you can write to your significant other and tell them exactly how you feel. You can make it personal and decorate it and your partner will cherish it forever.
