In a world made for straight strands, there are rules to follow in order to achieve and maintain perfect curls.

1. Thou shalt always use extra conditioner.

Shampoo 3-5 times a week, but condition everyday. Curls need moisture to avoid split ends and keep away frizz. Conditioners with coconut butter are perfect for your thirsty curls and make your hair smell irresistible.

2. Combs are thine enemy.

Never brush your curls, especially when they’re dry. Combing through curls separates the strands of hair and voluminizes your style…not in a good way. Brushing your hair also adds frizz. Run your fingers or a thick toothcomb through your hair in the shower while your conditioner is in to remove knots.

3. Cotton T-Shirts shalt be thine saving grace.

Using cotton t-shirts to dry your hair after a shower is a sure way to reduce frizz. The fabric isn’t as harsh as most towels, so it leaves your hair a lot softer.

4. Air drying is thine only option.

Using a blow dryer can also separate curls and add frizz to your ‘do, so make sure you let your hair dry once it’s out of the t-shirt. Letting your hair dry while it’s till wet also pulls down the strands of hair, making your curls a wee bit looser and longer.

5. Lotion shalt bring salvation.

If it’s humid, windy, or you just decided to sleep on your hair, kill the frizz on your head with a little dab of lotion. Be careful not to add too much or else it will look greasy! This works really well to slick back a pony too.

6. Thou shalt use thine curls to deceive.

If or when you decide to straighten your hair, chop off your dead ends to avoid that “stiff” look. Remember, curls have naturally different lengths, so no one will even notice.

7. Use thine hair to thine advantage.

If you ever forget a hair tie, no biggie! Twist your hair into a pony and then around itself into a knot! It’ll stay without any help and it can always be taken out.

8. Let others touch your hair, as they would let you touch theirs.

I know, little old ladies love it and annoying girls love to make the curls “boing”, but give them this pleasure. It’s a compliment, no matter how annoying it seems. Always smile politely when they tell you “how much women would pay to have those curls.”

9. Always be confident in thine curls.

Rock your hair! It’s different and unique. There aren’t a lot of people like you and that’s something to celebrate, not eliminate. You’re perfect just the way you are. Curls or not.
