The CMU International Film Fest is Here

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Once a year the CMU International Film Festival comes to bring cultural exchange and expression from around the world to our backyard. This year the festivities start on Thursday night at 7pm with A War from Denmark.  If an investigation into the Afghanistan conflicts is not your style though, no worries. The festival theme of conflict this year truly has something for everyone.

The film showing on Friday night, for example, is of particular interest to us here at Her Campus. Dreamcatcher is a film about human trafficking here in America, whose victims are mainly women. An inspiring documentary, the powerful story is the only movie I have ever seen with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Other eye-catching stories include Requiem for the American Dream, Taj Mahal, and The Propaganda Game. All three of these movies were deeply moving for me, with the last of these movies forcing me to question my perspectives on the North Korean conflict and media outlets as a whole. But don’t just take my word for it, check out the full list of movies here. Tickets are only $5 for students and $10 for adults. Full passes for all film showings over the next two weeks are also available.

It is our duty as college students to explore our interests, take advantage of great opportunities around campus, and question our beliefs. The CMU International Film Festival is a rare way to do all three, and I can’t wait to see my fellow Pitt students there.

Junior Economics and Chinese major at Pitt! I am Fundraising chair for our fantastic Pink Level Chapter that was voted "Most Philanthropic" last year. Since I love volunteering and organizing people to help our Pittsburgh community, getting HC members into fun, innovative ways to build this community is my job. My name is Melodi Reich, and I'm currently a student at the University of Pittsburgh studying Information Science. After graduation, I hope to go into a technology related field. However, writing is one of my hobbies and passions, and being a part of Her Campus has allowed me to express my more creative side through writing articles and other content. Joining Her Campus was one of the best decisions I made in college, and I can't wait to use the skills I've gained through being in this organization in the future.
