You could sense a distinct change in atmosphere in the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House the moment artist, Big Sean, poured a glass of wine as his intro to “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay”.  The crowd buzzed and bounced along, as they watched the artist perform the song that they had heard at so many parties before.  The Pitt Program Council sponsored the event, and invited the popular artist to perform songs such as “Dance (A$$)” and “High”. Along with those songs, he also played some music from his various mix tapes and collaborations with other artists, such as the song “Gangbang” which is technically a Wiz Khalifa song.

Big Sean is signed with Kanye West’s record label, G.O.O.D. Music and also Island Def Jam. The artist spent his childhood at music and art oriented grade schools, and then pursued a rapping career thereafter.  At the concert, Big Sean said that while in school he made sure that he received straight A’s.
While some of the audience members only knew Big Sean’s more popular songs, others could be seen singing the lyrics to every song off of the artists debut album “Finally Famous”.

The artist put on quite the performance, by not only “poppin bottles” on stage, but by also repeatedly proceeding to put his hands down his pants. Some audience members were very shocked by these acts, however, some applauded the artist for his bold acts. Freshman, Alli Soenksen, said, “It kind of made me feel uncomfortable, awwwwkwarddd”.  Either way, the crowd was in an uproar.

Big Sean was an eventful and controversial Hip-Hop performance. Many students are excited to see who Pitt Program Council brings next year.

What did you think of his performance?
