The Best and Worst Dressed of the 2013 Oscars

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Every year, award shows give us the opportunity to rave over the best dressed people of all time wearing the Armani, Prada, and designer-names-we-can’t-even-pronounce gowns. Although most of the time we love to look at the beautiful and jaw dropping designs, we also enjoy the few that have us laughing over how awful they are thinking, “Why would someone ever wear that?” Here are the best and worst dressed people from the 2013 Oscars.

The Best:

1. Amanda Seyfried: Wearing Alexander McQueen, this dress is absolutely beautiful and compliments her in every way. This dress is not too skintight and not too poufy. The lace on the dress adds a Victorian feel to her personality, not to mention that her makeup and hair are done flawlessly.

2. Reese Witherspoon: Ever since Legally Blonde came around, the supposed “Elle Woods” has had her style up to par. Years later, she still has the color down and is totally okay with showing off her curvy, mature body. Wearing Louis Vuitton, she embraces the whole package while looking very sophisticated and shows us that Reese has grown up.

3. Why not add a man to the mix? The mysterious, sexy, and down-to-earth Bradley Cooper: not only is he pulling off the tough guy look with his scruff, but he also shows his sensitive side as his tuxedo by Tom Ford is made of 100% recycled fabric. Here he is shown with Christoph Waltz.

The Worst:

1. Anne Hathaway: Don’t get me wrong, I love Anne, but I’m not too sure what she was thinking when she picked out this dress. The color completely washes her out, the neckline is all wrong, and I’m sorry but what is up with those nipples? In Prada, she looks like a light pink cocoon walking down the red carpet.

2. Helena Bonham Carter: I’m not sure if she still has some side effects from being in the Harry Potter movies, but she looks like she just whipped up a nasty spell and flew to the Oscars. Wearing Vivienne Westwood, her dress and hair both look like they came from a funeral in the middle of a tornado. The windblown look definitely doesn’t suit her.

3. Kristen Stewart: We all know Kristen in her Vampire-Werewolf land but the fur/mermaid look to this dress does not seem to be appropriate for the Oscars. Also, it would’ve been nice if she did something with her hair instead of making it look like she just rolled out of bed. Wearing Reem Acra, the color and the style is just not good for her, not to mention she came on crutches – I guess she gets an A for effort.
