Arm Tights: The Newest Thing in Shapewear?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

For as long as we can remember, Spanx has been a one-stop shop for anyone who needs comfy things to make them look better than they already do. The shaping bodysuits, bike shorts, leggings, tights and their latest bra-lets are staples of wardrobes everywhere. Open any closet – from Beyonce’s to you aunts’ – and you’ll probably find some Spanx. Heck, I have a core-shaper to wear under suits at job interviews. This brand has been key to a lot of confidence, and the market always pauses when they announce whatever’s next.

So, introducing the latest in shapewear: Arm tights!

Yes. Arm tights. Tights for your arms, and only your arms. Not your legs.

What the heck are arm tights, you ask? That’s an excellent question, and it’s taken exactly a week for me to answer it.

To combat jiggly, saggy, less-than-“perfectly toned” upper arms, Spanx has created arm tights. Thankfully, they aren’t just a pair of nude sausage-casing nylons that you slide on your upper arms. They look like any old crop top you own, but made of sheer materials. Founder Sarah Blakely says it is a “wardrobe game-changer”.

Hailed as revolutionary, Arm Tights took five years to design and construct in a way that is functional, comfortable, and with 360-degree coverage for slimmer-looking arms. Made of seamless nylon and polyester similar to real tights for your legs, Arm Tights are meant to be worn as a layering item. Pop it on under your blouse for work, a sweater for a casual night out, your old lacrosse shirt for class. What’s better is that they come in 11 colors, including 2 metallic options for extra glamour. Arm Tights come in 3 sizes – x-small/small, medium and large/x-large – and come in at $30 to $34 a pop, minus shipping.

While they look and sound a little silly, I am going to withhold judgement. I mean, who doesn’t love a good sheer crop top? And how can you argue with so many different colors? If only our real bras and panties were so colorful and half as comfy!
