7 Fast Facts About Pitt’s New Athletic Director

Pitt recently hired a new Athletic Director this month! If you have no idea what an Athletic Director is or what they do, then here is a definition provided by Wikipedia1: “An athletic director (AD) is an administrator at many clubs or institutions, like colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, who oversees the work of coaches and related staff involved in athletic programs.” Heather Lyke recently became Pitt’s and here are seven fast facts you need to know about her!

Heather Lyke is Pitt’s first ever female AD

Pitt hired their first Athletic Director, Charles S, Miller 106 years ago2. Lyke is the first woman in The University of Pittsburgh’s history to hold such a grand title.

 

She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1992

Where she was a standout first baseman softball player. In 1992, she helped lead the team to the 1992 Championship as a captain. Go Blue!

 

She’s originally from Canton, Ohio

Which is only a short two-hour drive from Pitt!

She was the AD for Eastern Michigan

Even there, she was the first female AD there too!

 

She was a member of the athletic department’s exec team for Ohio State

It was there that she developed “Ohio State’s first student-athlete internship program, ‘Bucks Go Pro.3’”

 

She played three sports in high school

Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. I guess you could say she’s a “triple threat.”

 

Lyke has a husband, and 3 children
