7 Apps You Can’t Afford to Miss Out On!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

In college, saving money is very important. You have student loans to worry about and can’t afford to spend money carelessly. However, money should not keep you from doing things that you love to do, like going out to eat, going shopping, or going to a local concert. Therefore, it’s important to utilize all of the resources you have at your fingertips to look for deals and ways to save.

As a college student, it’s likely that you have a smartphone. Yet, what many of us fail to realize is that our smartphones offer us a lot more than we think. Smartphones have several apps that provide users with discounts and deals. These apps are especially useful for frugal college students. So, if you do not have any of these, they are definitely worth checking out!

1. Groupon – Groupon is a great app for finding discounted things to do around Pittsburgh! Groupon has local events and restaurant deals that can be up to 90% off of the original price. Groupon has coupons for nail salons, tanning, and clothes, so just about everything! It is free to download and is constantly updating its site with new deals.

2. RetailMeNot – RetailMeNot is one of the greatest shopping discount apps. It offers online coupons for some of your favorite stores, like H&M, Forever 21, and American Eagle! It also allows you to save the coupon on your phone so that it is easily accessible when you go shopping.

3. SnipSnap – Snipsnap is a great app for those of us who receive a lot of printed coupons. While this app does not directly save you money, when you have a coupon you can simply take a picture of it and your phone will save it as a mobile coupon. This is also a great app for those of us who are forgetful and disorganized. You will never have to flip through your wallet to find a coupon with this!

4. RedLaser – RedLaser is another app very useful for college students. Many times college students need small appliances or school supplies and want to find the cheapest priced item. RedLaser allows you to scan the barcode of an item and it will tell you where that item is sold at the cheapest price. It also syncs with your location so it tells you where you can get the item near you for a low price!

5. GasBuddy – GasBuddy is awesome for those of us with cars at school. GasBuddy uses your location to search for the Gas Station with the lowest priced gas near you!

6. Around Campus – Around Campus app is an app specifically created for college students, and is one of the most popular college coupon apps. It finds deals and discounts located around your specific campus. This app is very convenient when you want to go grab lunch with friends when you’re on a budget, and your friends will love you for getting this!

7. Favoda – For some of us, grocery shopping can be horrible. You spend so much time walking up and down the aisles trying to find good quality food at a low price. Favoda is an app that makes finding deals at the grocery store much easier. After you download the app, you type in your zip code and it locates all of the grocery stores around you. You then choose which ones you shop at and it shows you all of the weekly promotions and deals at those specific stores. This app will save you a lot of money and grocery shopping won’t seem as terrible!
