Cover versions of songs never fail to surprise me. Why? If done well, you have another form of one of your favorite songs to listen to, just done by another person. There are so many well-done covers of songs that it’s impossible to listen to all of them. Here are some of my favorite cover versions of songs you may have never heard before:

1.  “The Winner Takes It All” by Sarah Dawn Finer (ABBA cover)

Sarah Dawn Finer has been called the “Swedish Adele.” This is her cover of ABBA’s “The Winner Takes It All,” performed at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest final in Sweden.

2.  “99 Problems” by Hugo (Jay Z cover)

Keep in mind how Jay-Z performed his big hit while you listen to Hugo’s cover. It makes it so much better and cooler!

3.  “Sheena is a Punk Rocker” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs (The Ramones cover)

Try NOT to head-bang to this cover of The Ramones’s classic—it’s impossible.

4.  “Careless Whisper” by The Gossip (George Michael cover)

To be honest, it took me a couple of listens to realize this is actually a cover. I thought it was an original!

5.  “Higher Love” by James Vincent McMorrow (Steve Winwood cover)

Want a mellow version of Steve Winwood’s 1986 number one hit? James Vincent McMorrow completely changes the song and creates a magical piano acoustic piece.

6.  “We Can’t Stop” by Postmodern Jukebox (Miley Cyrus cover)

Miley Cyrus and ‘50s Doo Wop? Seems too good to be true! Postmodern Jukebox covers “We Can’t Stop” in a way that throws you back sixty years—if it was common to talk about drugs and strip clubs, that is.

To me, the best thing about covers is the chance to find brilliant new artists. I have found some of my favorite musicians and bands by searching for and/or stumbling across one (or more) of their covers.

There are so many great covers out there for you to listen to, all you have to do is roam around and find them!
