4 Musts of Attending a College Football Game

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Alright collegiates, fall is quickly approaching which means that football season is in full swing! With college football comes cute t-shirts, glittery bows, and every girls dream: buff guys with their chests painted. The best way to show school spirit is to attend the games and fill Heinz Field’s 65,500 seats with screaming Panther fans. However, no one wants to be that girl who is cheering for the wrong team or overdressed for the occasion. Have no fear because with this guide, you can enjoy the game without looking like the odd man out.

1. Get your head in the game

Football games can range anywhere from three to four hours and you don’t want to be sitting around moping the entire time. Prior to the game, watch some Youtube videos so you know the chants and can sing along to Sweet Caroline with all of your friends!

Believe me, by getting involved in the game you will make memories that you can tell your grandchildren about. Pro Tip: When Pitt scores, people get thrown in the air so take advantage of the amazing fun! (And what girl wouldn’t want 6 hot guys throwing them in the air?)

2. Touch up on your football lingo

Whether you’ve never been to a football game before or you’ve been attending them since you were a child, you may be a little rusty with rules or terminology. You don’t want to be that girl cheering for the other team or clapping when the other team has the ball. It’s also a serious bonus when all of your friends ask you questions about the game and you know what down it is and which team is on offense!

3. Keep it classy

Everyone likes to have fun before the games and tailgate with your friends, but remember you are in a public place. No one likes it when you can’t hold yourself together and risk ruining the day for your friends. By attending the game, you will have enough fun and excitement, so don’t feel the need to tailgate too hard beforehand.

4. Dress for the occasion

As a girly girl myself, I know it’s extremely tempting to wear a sun dress with nice sandals, but a football game is not always the time or place for that. At a big football game, everyone is wearing the team’s colors with their faces painted. This is the time for you to wear crazy scarves, glittery bows, and colorful beads with it being considered socially acceptable! Take advantage of all of the fun and unique outfits you can create with your friends. (And you’ll get tons of likes on Instagram).

Now go and make memories you will have for the rest of your life! H2P!
