4 Business Professional Staples That Should Be In Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

One of the best college essentials to have in your wardrobe are business professional clothing. Whether they are needed for an interview, internship or even just an important event, it’s crucial to have some business professional pieces in your closet. Here are four business professional staples that you should have in your closet!

Basics

In this sense, basics means simple pieces that you can layer with a blazer, cardigan or jacket. For me, some of the basics that I have are nice tank tops that pair well with a blazer, blouses and even turtlenecks. For the basics, I lean towards buying neutral colors like black, white, gray and brown, which allows me the ability to build an outfit around it. Basics, for me, are an essential to creating a business professional look that I feel comfortable in. Most of the time, I find my basics either at Express or Banana Republic, and I try to catch them when they’re on sale!

Blazers

Blazers are a must when it comes to having a business professional wardrobe. Personally, I only have one blazer, and frankly, that’s all you really need. A blazer just ties the whole outfit together and gives off a polished look. Whenever I put on my blazer, my outfit feels complete and I feel ready to conquer whatever lies ahead of me. Once you get a blazer, you will never be able to attend an interview, meeting or internship without one again! You can go with a blazer in a neutral color, or use it as a pop of color like the picture above!

Like a blazer, dress pants are a key essential to putting a good professional outfit together. Dress pants are a staple to making an outfit be ready for any interview! There are so many different ways to style dress pants, and various styles of dress pants to choose from! My go-to dress pants are usually high-waisted and wide-leg. Like my basics, I try to get my dress pants in colors that I can base all of my outfits around. I tend to get dress pants in colors like black, gray and tan. For me, dress pants can make or break an outfit, and sometimes it’s so hard to choose which one to wear! You can even choose to have matching set with your blazer and dress pants like the photo above!

Nice Pair of Shoes

Once you finish with picking out your outfit, it comes down to the finishing touch – shoes. Shoes can make or break an outfit. Different pairs of shoes can give off different types of vibes and styles. Most of the time, I tend to lean toward either a pair of boots, heels or flats. However, I always find myself tripping in the heels, I usually go with the boots or flats. Shoes can be the pop of color in an outfit or can just add some personality to your clothes!

I’m not a fashion expert, but I hope this article can help when figuring out your outfit for your next meeting, internship or interview! Good luck!
