The Overly Over Committed

If you haven’t noticed it by now, you might be a bit too over committed.  It’s a habit that most Pepperdine students tend to have. I am not sure if it is a culture phenomena or if it’s due to pressure.  These students tend to be in literally everything. From taking on too many class, to having too many extracurricular activities. By no means does being over committed state that you are over the top, it just means that you have too much on your plate and perhaps you should take a break. If you happen to be the type of person who gets stressed really easily or hasn’t had much time to sleep because you have too much going on, maybe it’s time to start thinking of which activities you want to put aside. Here’s a way to know if you or someone else might be over committed.

Lack of Sleep

Have you been feeling tired lately? Falling asleep in class? Or are you just thinking very hard with your eyes closed? Not enough sleep is definitely a result of being too over committed. You are in so many activities that sometimes you don’t have time to do your work for your actual classes. This forces you to have to stay up late finishing those assignments or even studying for that exam. You can definitely find some of those students sleeping in class, library, common areas, and well basically anywhere there’s a place to sleep.

Ambitious

Overcommitted people tend to be ambitious too. They have so much drive to succeed and never let anything stop them. Having ambitious is a very good thing. It gets you finishing items you need to accomplish. It also lets you set goals for yourself that you know you’ll surpass.

They always want to be overcommit

You just can’t say no. This is differently one of the struggles for someone who is overcommitted. They haven’t figured out that saying no is okay. Don’t feel bad if you need to do something else, don’t drown yourself with too many events and realize you can’t handle it.

Procrastinator

Let’s face it. Sometimes when we have so much to do or are committed in so much we barely have enough time for our homework. Overcommitted people have been known to do things literally last minute. Now not all over committed people are procrastinators, there’s a good handful who are good at planning ahead. Yet, you can’t fully escape those moments when you wait last minute to do something. Take for example, I am procrastinating to this very moment on many assignments I need to finish tonight.

Need a planner

You just need a planner! You have so much going on that you can’t always keep track. Well guess what! An over committed person has a planner. Okay, maybe not all over committed people have planners, but most do. I know that I have a planner to keep track of all the events I need to attend.

Hola, mi llamo Marissa Hernandez. Hey, I'm Marissa Hernandez, and I am a senior studying Psychology at Pepperdine University. I am involved and an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Business Fraternity and I am currently working on campus through the theater department. I am very passionate about art and working with children. I hope to one day open my own center that is primarily focused on children and teens, through the involvement of art, sports, cooking, and other fun activities. I personally believe that community and communication with their peers who have similar interest, is the most effective way of therapy. Besides my personal interest in the future, in my free time I love to socialize with my friends, paint, eat food, and cook. I have a habit of having dinner parties every weekend about 10-15 of our closest friends, in which I cook large feast of Mexican food or other types of foods. I have an addiction to Sawtelle, in which you might catch my in the wee hours of the night getting Tatsu or wintermelon boba. I am pretty easy to find on campus, since I never go a day without wearing a single flower or a lot of flowers in my hair.
