5 Hole in the Wall Desserts in LA

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pepperdine chapter.

Calling foodies everywhere! Her Campus Pepperdine has the scoop on five hole in the wall dessert places that are perfect for study breaks and that help brighten up the holidays!

Milk Jar Cookies

This shabby chic little shop is located near LACMA and The Grove. Their specialty: cookies that are fat and gooey in the center. Enjoy flavors ranging from their famous banana split to peppermint bark, add a cup of their warm milk or some hot cocoa, and enjoy the ambiance in their unique shop. Seriously, this is the cutest little bakery I’ve ever been to! Also, it’s the perfect place to study!

Salt & Straw

With unique ice cream flavors such as honey lavender and Stumptown coffee, it’s no wonder why this place is one of the most popular ice cream spots in town. With plenty of restaurants situated in our backyard of LA, this is a must try for any Pepperdine student.

Churros Calientes

If you love churros, then you need to give this place a try. The outside may not look like much, but I can guarantee that they’ve got the best churros in all of LA. With a variety of dipping sauces and churro flavors, this hole in the wall joint is a go-to for comfort food.

Milk

Located near The Grove, Milk’s specialty item is the giant macaron sandwiches. They’ve got some interesting flavors: Thai tea to fruity pebbles. Definitely, a fun dessert place to go to! They even have blue velvet cake and regular ice cream for those who are looking for something a little more basic. You aren’t a real Southern Californian until you’ve been here.

The Pie Hole

I recently just tried the pie hole, as they opened a little shop in The Americana, and oh my goodness, it’s good! This is probably the most popular hole in the wall joint on this list and there’s definitely a good reason why. I tried the Earl Grey Tea flavor, which is their most popular flavor and it did not disappoint. Like, I don’t even like pie, but they made me like pie!

My name is Queenie Navarro and I am an Accounting major in my 3rd year at Pepperdine University. On campus, I am involved with the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and am currently interning for College Fashionista as a Style Guru. In my free time, I enjoy going on spontaneous adventures and am devoted to the belief that life is about taking chances and trying everything that the world has to offer. I've shopped 'til I've literally dropped, I used to be part of a punk rock band, I've tried everything from escargot to scorpions on a stick, and have been fortunate enough to travel in over 40 countries before I even turned twenty. Overall, I consider myself to be a very open-minded person and am inspired, daily, by the people around me. One day, I dream of working for the corporate offices of some fashion magazine while hopefully getting to travel the world.
