12 Curly Hair Products For My Type 2C Curls That I Swear By

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pepperdine chapter.

After years of searching for the best products for my curls, I have come across an arsenal of incredible products that I rely on. My type 2C curls are similar to Lorde, Lili Reinhart, and Sarah Hyland and are very susceptible to frizz.

Shampoo: Aussie Paraben-Free Miracle Curls Shampoo with Coconut & Jojoba Oil

As you will see in this list, I tend to swear by Aussie products. Their Miracle Curls shampoo cleans your scalp without drying it out and leaves your hair smelling incredible.

Conditioner: Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner

After I use this conditioner, my hair feels like silk. It takes a couple of days for my hair to look greasy after this conditioner, so it is perfect for irregular washes.

Build-up Buster: Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk – Cleansing Oil

The applicator tip of this bottle allows you to place the product directly on your scalp. Massage it in and leave it for a minute or two, and you will find all of your product build-up is gone!

Quick Deep Conditioner: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner

This is the perfect solution for making sure you are taking care of your curls but not wanting to waste hours doing a hair mask. Put this in, and by the time you are done shaving your legs, it’s ready to rinse! It leaves your hair silky and hydrated.

Deep Conditioner: Aztec Clay Mask

I used this mask one time on my hair, and it changed the game. Mix equal parts of clay and apple cider vinegar and bring paste through your hair section by section. I recommend doing this in a place you don’t mind getting a bit messy. Although this mask is a bit time-consuming, it will make  your curls look better than they have in years! (Bonus: You can use this as a face mask too!)

Conditioning Cream: ORS Olive Oil Extra Rich Hair Cream

This is the first thing that I put in my hair after my shower. Comb with your fingers from root to tip. Depending on your hair length, you should only need a quarter-sized amount.

Curl Cream: Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk – Curl Defining Cream

My lifesaver! This is the second and very last thing I put in my hair after my shower. Comb a quarter-sized amount through your hair with your fingers and then scrunch it in at the tips. I always get compliments for how good my hair smells, and it is definitely because of this product. It leaves your hair soft with no crunchy gel residue.

Second Day Curl Refresh: Aussie Miracle Curls Refresher Spray Gel

After sleeping on my curls, I scrunch this into my hair the next day and it makes them look like new! On super humid days, I spray this after my Curl Defining Cream to lock in my curls.

Scalp Exfoliation Tool: Scalp Massager

If you are like me and get a lot of product build-up, put your shampoo in and exfoliate your scalp with this tool. It reaches through thick hair perfectly!

Hair Dryer Attachment: Universal Diffuser

When I need my hair to dry quicker, I use a diffuser. There are tons of videos on how to use a diffuser on YouTube if it’s your first time using one. This one, in particular, fits on any hair dryer!

Hair Clip: No Slip Octopus Jaw Clip

After I rinse out my conditioner, I put my hair up in a clip. The wetter your hair is when you put in your products, the less frizz you will get once your curls are dry.

Comb: Conair Wide Tooth Lift Comb For All Hair Types

After I put in my conditioner, I comb out my hair. It is the ONLY time I brush my hair! I find that combing with the conditioner in your hair reduces tear-out.

Bonus Frizz Tips:

Scrunch dry your hair with an old, 100% cotton t-shirt to lessen frizz.

Shock your hair with cold water right before you get out of the shower to lock in moisture.

Buy silk pillowcases to eliminate frizz if you move around a lot in your sleep. Silk pillowcases are relatively inexpensive on Amazon.

Don’t touch your hair! After you put the product in, do not touch your hair until it is completely dry, it makes it frizzy!
