We need to have a girls talk because when I say girl groups are back, I mean that they are back! For those that don’t know what I am talking about, there was a Netflix show last year called Building the Band where singers go into boxes without seeing each other with the objective of forming a musical group. They have to make connections by only hearing each other’s voices, having several conversations with one another, and trusting their instincts when officially forming the group. Although we only got one season, I believe that most of the groups that were formed were absolutely amazing and will be very successful in the future. However, there is one group that truly caught my attention on day one and I believe that they deserved to win the show. That group is none other than 3Quency! These girls are absolutely talented, kind, and showed what it means to be a part of an all-women musical group. Their energy, love, and connection are what made them truly successful and I believe that this is the girl group we need nowadays. After one year of being in the music industry as a group, they are definitely going to be big and I am ready to see what the future holds for these girls.
Brianna Mazzola, Nori Moore, and Wennely Quezada are the lovely girls that make up 3Quency. Mazzola is well known in the music industry for her appearance in Club Mickey Mouse and for being the singing voice of Velvet in Trolls: Band Together. I have been a fan of Mazzola since she did Trolls and was very excited when she went on Building the Band. She is truly an amazing artist and having her as part of the group is amazing for all of the girls. Having someone who has been in the industry as long as she has is great for the group, so they can grow to be even bigger artists than they already are.
Nori Moore is a unique artist with a beautiful voice. She is a fast learner given that she hasn’t really been this big in the industry before. Moore always wants to bring out the fun in the group so they can enjoy what they are doing. She originally started to get into music with community theater and school pageants. She was going to college, but decided to take a break when she auditioned for Building the Band, and this was definitely the right decision for her, otherwise we wouldn’t have 3Quency today. Her style, fashion, and bubbly personality really helps showcase that 3Quency isn’t in it just for the music and money, they want to follow their passions and enjoy themselves.
As a proud Latina myself, I love how Wennely Quezada makes sure that she shows her Latina side within the group and proves that she is a powerhouse when it comes to music. Quezada was in a Latino group before competing in Building the Band, which means she couldn’t let that part of her go when she joined 3Quency. Her talents from her previous group experience really help her shine and make her such an incredible artist when she is performing and making music. Putting all of these girls together truly showed that music can be so much better with more than one singer, especially when they form a great connection with one another.
Now, when 3Quency first formed as a band, they only were able to sing covers when they were competing on the show. However, last September, they released their debut single “Top Down” and have been releasing many other bangers like “Clique,” “Once I Was a Good Girl,” and much more. With “Top Down,” their voices blend so well with each other, the music video was absolute cinema, and the fashion is to die for — how can you not get addicted to the group after their first ever song? “Top Down” is always on repeat for me and it is never going to stop. They recently released a song called “Girls Talk” and how can you not relate to and love this song? I love how the songs reverse the meaning more than what most people think. When they say “Girls Talk,” they don’t mean being negative toward each other, they mean that girls should stand with each other. Yes, I loved the music video and all about the song, but I truly loved the message of the song since I am the type of girl to stand with my girls and would never want to bring other girls down.
While all of the songs that are mentioned are absolutely incredible, my personal favorite from them is none other than “Telephone.” I loved that the music video wasn’t overwhelming with crazy sets, expensive outfits, etc. I loved that it was simple with them enjoying each other’s company, looking badass with their cute outfits, and stating true facts within their singing. The song is about brushing off the haters that they have and people can really relate to this song because it’s true what they say — we shouldn’t be stressed about what others have to say about us. I love how 3Quency makes their music sound catchy but has good messages behind it so that we can connect with them and be unapologetically badass girls, just like them.
What I think makes people love 3Quency even more is how active they are on their social media platforms and how they connect with their fans. With their social media, I feel like they plan out what kind of videos and trends that they want to do, but they don’t over do it. I feel like they genuinely are fun girls to be around and they truly enjoy making all of their content. Compared to other influencers, celebrities, and artists, they make their content feel genuine, fun, and bring people together because of how much joy they get out of doing it. Not to mention how they interact with their fans online and in person. These girls are so nice to all of their fans. They always enjoy having conversations with their fans, love doing videos with them, are always so supportive of their fans with the work their fans do, and so much more. We don’t get a lot of celebrities that are so kind and care about their fans which is what really makes me like each girl.
If it isn’t clear by now, I truly do love 3Quency and I need more people to love them just as much as I do. I love that each girl is not trying to steal any spotlight or be the “leader” of the group. They truly have bonded with each other and created a sisterhood that a lot of girl groups fail to have. 3Quency showed what it means to be a part of a girl group and what it’s all about. I know that they are going to grow even more as the years go on with their music and careers. They’re even on tour right now and as much as I wished I could have gone to their NYC show, I didn’t want to go alone because I need to get my friends to like this group just as much as I do. But don’t worry, one day I will go to their show and I will be having a great party with them! I will tell 3Quency this though — I need more music from you ladies! They already announced their album and I’m patiently waiting for new songs to come out, but I don’t know how much longer I can wait. I do want to thank 3Quency for not letting the fame cause them to forget where they came from and for not changing because yes, I do love music, but I love music even more when the artists are amazing, wonderful people and they didn’t fail with that at all. I’m looking forward to what 3Quency has next in line and have high hopes for the group and for future generations of new girl groups forming, since we have a great example of what it takes to be a part of a girl group.
