You may not know this about me, unless you know me too well, then you definitely do, but The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies ever. In fact, if you follow me on Letterboxd, you can see that movie being the first one in my top four. So naturally, I was ecstatic to hear that this movie will be getting a sequel. Also, with all of the original cast returning? Oh I will be seated opening night. The theatre employees are too scared and asking me to leave because it’s “not 2026 yet,” but I’m simply too seated. (Hopefully someone understood that reference).
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to release on May 1, 2026. Although, on Nov. 12, which was also Anne Hathaway’s birthday, Disney dropped a teaser trailer of the movie in celebration.
While I don’t know too much about the film, there is a small synopsis stating that the movie “Follows Miranda Priestly’s struggle against Emily Charlton, her former assistant turned rival executive, as they compete for advertising revenue amidst declining print media while Miranda nears retirement.”
In terms of the actual teaser itself, we see Miranda, played by Meryl Streep, walking into an elevator, and everyone clearing the area for her. Then, we get little flashes of models dressing up for a runway event, and a champagne bottle being opened. (Possibly to celebrate the success of the runaway event?) Then, we get the iconic camera pan up toward Miranda in the elevator, with her iconic sunglasses. Just as the elevator is about to close, a hand pops in to open it back up. It’s Andy, who is played by Hathaway, and she stands right next to Miranda. This indicates that Andy isn’t as afraid of Miranda like she was in the first film. Both Miranda and Andy have a small greeting to each other and then, we get the title of the film. Obviously there’s not too much since it’s a teaser trailer, but it still got me very excited.
I’m very interested in seeing where this film will go, and there’s so many questions I have. Like, how is Andy going to help Miranda? Is Miranda actually going to retire? Is there going to be a plot twist where Andy betrays Miranda? Who knows, the possibilities are endless. I just have a few notes I would like to give to the producers and director of this film. One, please don’t have Miranda express any kindness in this movie. Yes, it would be funny to see when she has accepted defeat, but I do not want to see Miranda being a nice person to anyone throughout this movie. I love the ruthless, tough character that Miranda is. Second, please do not have Andy’s boyfriend in this movie. In truth, he was the real villain of the first movie, and I still side eye him every time I rewatch the first one. Other than that, I can’t wait for this film.
