Wear or find green within your wardrobe. Don’t pull a Liz lemon this year and have nothing green to wear, for the tenth year in a row, for St. Patrick’s Day.

Don’t have class this Thursday morning?
Head uptown and over to 44th Street for the famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which begins at 11:00 am. The participants have a route of marching up Fifth Avenue and passing St. Patrick’s Cathedral and go all the way to 79th Street. Why not paint your face green and orange and support the Irish heritage during the festival!

After you finished observing the parade, head back downtown where you can find great Irish pubs such as The Dubliner located at 45 Stone St. for some authentic Irish food or The Dead Rabbit at 30 Water Street to have a signature pint of Guinness.
Want to explore some Irish history and is only a fifteen-minute walk from campus? Walk over to Battery Park City where you can see beautiful Irish Hunger Memorial, which consists of the ruins from an Irish cottage from the famine during the 1840’s. While walking through the memorial on this warm spring day, remember to recognize the sacrifices the Irish community endured to have a better life and how far they have come.

If you aren’t tired from Thursday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, head to Brooklyn where there is another celebration occurring in Prospect Park. Not only does this parade celebrate the Irish-American’s contributions to New York City whom originally settled in Brooklyn, the festival also honors the men and women who passed away during 9/11. So grab your friends and take the 4 or 5 train to Brooklyn where the commencement beings at 12:45 PM.
But most importantly, appreciating the historical background of St. Patrick’s Day is just as important as staying safe while you’re celebrating!
