My Skincare Routine is Intense, But So Worth It

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

Let’s just say I have a pretty intense skincare routine, and although it’s not completely necessary at such a young age, it’s really enjoyable. Interestingly enough, I find myself to be easily swayed by Instagram and Pinterest advertisements pressuring me to buy products that are not necessarily worth the price. Of course, I don’t buy all of them, but I do my research and splurge on the skincare devices accordingly. For this article, I’m going to talk about the celebrity beauty products I use daily for a night-to-day glow-up.

SKINCARE

I always start my morning by brushing my teeth and taking a shower, then beginning my full-fledged skincare routine. I use the master skincare acronym “Cows Eat More Than Squirrels Eat Mood,” which I learned in a skincare video by Patrick Starr. This acronym helps divide the skincare process into steps that can lead to more effective results. Cows – Cleanse; Eat – Exfoliate; More – Mask; Than – Toner; Squirrels – Serum; Eat – Eye Cream; Mood – Moisturizer; This is the process I religiously follow that has completely changed my skin for the better.

I’ll go ahead and say that the base of my skincare routine is using SKKN by Kim. I know that sounds so bougie, but my skin has never looked better. I use “The Complete Collection,” starting with the cleanser (always doing a double cleanse), and then going in with the exfoliator. I definitely don’t exfoliate daily, but I change up products depending on how I feel. Normally, I use either the SKKN exfoliant in the collection or The Ordinary Exfoliating Peeling Solution. My skin is always so soft and fresh looking after a nice exfoliant. My toner is from the SKKN collection, and I deep-dive into serums. At the moment, my absolute favorite is the Solawave Renew Complex Serum combined with the Solawave Advanced Skincare Wand with Red Light Therapy. The serum and the wand in tandem are absolutely magical for my skin, revealing an unworldly glow and the appearance of a tighter and brighter complexion. I finish my routine with the SKKN eye cream and use the moisturizer mixed with a few pumps of the SKKN oil drops, just to give my skin the extra glow. Lastly, my holy grail in skin care is the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment (specifically the salted caramel flavor). The chef’s kiss is the nourishment that it gives my lips, along with the slightly glazy, glossy finish. After this routine, my skin is dewy, glowy, hydrated, and clean. Just the way I like it.

MAKEUP

My use of makeup is little to none. I usually go for a natural, dewy, glowy look and end up only using brow gel, mascara, blush, and the occasional lip liner and lipstick combo. Starting with the eyebrows, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel; it’s extremely lightweight and holds my very thin eyebrows in place. Lately, for my mascara, I’ve been switching between the Thrive Cosmetics “Liquid Lash Extension” Mascara and the R.E.M. Beauty Flourishing Lengthening Mascara. On the days that I want a bold eye look, I use Thrive mascara, and on an effortless long lash day, I vibe more with a R.E.M. Beauty moment. I’ve used the same blush since my sophomore year of high school, and I will stand by it. The Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Creme Blush in the Shade Rosé Latte is absolutely stunning on darker, more melanated skin tones like my own. Lastly, for the lips, it honestly depends on how I’m feeling. Usually, I’m just going to use my Peptide Lip Treatment, but when I feel fancy, I may go in with a R.E.M Beauty or Juvia’s Place lip liner or lipstick. Darker lip colors are my jam.

HAIR

Currently, I’m in a butterfly loc and bang phase, allowing me to pay closer attention to my hair and use products that will allow me to take better care of the scalp, helping it to grow and thrive. Right now, my favorite hair care brand is Pattern Beauty by Tracee Ellis. These products have actually changed the game for me and my hair. I have abnormally dry hair, and every few days, I use products like the leave-in conditioner, hydrating mist, jojoba oil blend, or the curl mousse to bring some life back into my dry and coily hair. Using these products has allowed me to love caring for my hair just as much as I care for my skin.

Overall, my self-care methods at times can seem really intense, and honestly, they can get tiring, but when I see my glowing skin and growing healthy hair, it encourages me to continue taking that extra time to take care of myself. I know down the line, when I’m not so young anymore, my future self will thank me.
