I Watched Harry Potter For The First Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

Without having seen the Harry Potter series or even read the books, I felt so out of the loop with pop culture. Now, it’s not like I had no idea what or who Harry Potter was. I had seen a couple scenes from the movies every once and awhile and I’ve been following everything surrounding J.K. Rowling, the author of the series, but it was a whole other experience to be able to watch the whole series from start to finish. Growing up, I’d always hear people make references to it and never understood them. Until, finally, over Election Day weekend I, at the age of 18, watched the whole Harry Potter series with my sister in one sitting. And I have to say it truly lives up to the hype.

I want to watch the movies again and read all the books now. I’m in love with this series and I’m so happy I was finally able to watch it. With that being said; I’m a Hufflepuff, which is awesome- I love the house I belong to. A Hufflepuff values hard work, patience, loyalty and justice. And I must say my favorite movies from the series as a whole are movies 4 and 5, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (an honorable mention being Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince).

Moving onto characters, my two favorite characters are Ron Wealsey and Hermione Granger so you could really envision the amount of happiness I had when they finally kissed in the final movie! I think Hermione is such a strong, confident and intellectual character and the fact that Emma Watson portrays here is just even more amazing considering how prominent a figure she is in advocating for women’s rights and her position in the United Nations (UN) as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Ron Wealsey is just such a loveable dork, in my opinion. The two of them have the cutest friendship and I was thrilled that it developed into more.

I’m really excited to start the book series. I just bought the first book of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I guess I will have to give an update as I read it. I recommend, if you too haven’t seen any of the Harry Potter movies, to watch them right away- you won’t regret it.
