If someone looks at the articles I’ve written in the past, it will come as no surprise that I truly believe The Bold Type is one of the most important shows on television today.

This season they are truly outdoing themselves when it comes to discussing important topics that mainstream media tends to shy away from. Kat’s character has always been a character that is so important because she is portrayed struggling with her sexuality in her mid twenties which is a very valid and important thing to be portrayed. In a recent episode she decides to sit her best friends down, and tell them that she is bisexual. She talks about the fact that she doesn’t like labels but she feels like this one feels right, right now to help her make sense of the space she’s in.

As I was watching this scene I couldn’t stop thinking about how important it is to not be so hard on how people label themselves. As we’re all growing and changing, our labels are allowed to change with us and I think that’s something that is not often talked about. While it’s so normal to be confused about who we are and change our minds, it’s not something that is normalized in our society and I have nothing but respect for this show that is attempting to do just that.

The thing that really got me was the way Jane and Sutton responded which was by saying, “We love all of your labels as long as you’re just being you.” I love these women and the way they are portraying such beautiful female friendship.

Anyway, if you’re not watching The Bold Type at this point honestly what are you doing with your life?
