Top 10 Things That Make Having a Big Sister the Best Thing in This World!

I am the youngest of two girls. My sister and I are three years apart, and while having an older sister can be so annoying at times, here are 10 reasons why having a big sister is the best thing in this world.

  1. Your older sister gets all the heat from your parents.

While being the eldest sister does have its good, let me just tell you, being the youngest sibling is always the blessing in disguise. Your older sister was the first, so she was the one your parents yelled at the most. She got in trouble for staying out late, getting that one bad grade, spending too much money, bringing home a boy to meet the family first, the list goes on and on. With that being said, since your parents have already been through it all with your older sister, when it is your turn to grow up, they are always much easier on you. The reasoning behind this is your older sister has set a good example to your parents proving that you can still go out responsibly and still get that A in school. Your parents know if you are the younger sister, you have had one pretty amazing role model as a big sister. You as the younger one, will only continue to follow in their footsteps and make the same good choices.

2.She helps you make it through life.

Being the older sibling, I can only imagine what you have to go through having a crazy, loud mouth, younger sister. Just ask my big sis she will tell you! However, I know her favorite thing has been watching me grow. Your big sister will always be there to help and guide you through life one milestone at a time. Your big sis has most likely been through whatever you are going through now, so asking her for advice is the best thing you can do. She will know exactly how to handle the situation. She knows what to say, and when to say it.

3.She can help you with your school work.

Having a big sister who has already learned everything you are learning in school now, she can help you out with whatever you need. Cannot figure out that algebra problem? Do not know where your classes are the first day of high school or college? Well you guessed it, your big sis knows it all. She told you about the teacher you would have for the year, she helped you study for that test, and she showed you your way around on the first day of school.

4.She gave you advice when it came to applying to college.

The best advice my sister ever gave me when applying to colleges was to do things for me, and to make the decision that would make me the happiest. Since your big sister went to college before you did, she knows what the process is like. She knows what to do in order to fill out all those applications during that very, stressful time. She was able to give advice on not just the academics, but also on the social life aspect of it.

5.She can help you get your first job.

Believe it or not, my first job was all thanks to my big sis! When she left for college, I just turned 16, meaning it was time for my first job. She left her job to go to college, and when she did that, I took her job. She can put in a good word for you, so when it is your turn to go work, your co-workers will welcome you with open arms. Just like my first job did!

6.You can steal her clothes.

Walking into your big sisters’ closet is like walking into a department store. All the latest fashion trends are just down the hall from your room. The new Vineyard Vines half zip, or those new adidas sneakers, or how about that new top from Nordstrom? Your big sis has got it all! Even though sometimes you have to sneak into their room, wear the shirt for the day, wash it, and neatly put it back like you have never even touched it before, your big sister has all the new clothes for you to wear too.

7.She can cover for you/get you out of trouble.

Your grounded for coming home 5 minutes after curfew, so what do you do? Call you big sis. She will know how to talk to your parents to get you out of trouble since she has probably been grounded for something similar back then. Or how about being late to the family dinner because you are out with friends. Call your big sis, she can cover for you and waste some time before the family starts eating.

8.You always have someone to go shopping with.

Every girl loves shopping and spending money. You can just ask my dad, he knows living with 3 girls in the house. Having that big sister, I can guarantee anytime you ask to go shopping, they will say, yes! You both probably have similar style, so bring your big sister with you to encourage you to buy those new shoes or to buy that new pair of jeans.

9.She gives great boy advice.

If you ever needed advice on that boy you were head over heels for, your sister could give you the best advice with how to deal with it. She can also give you the advice when it comes to the heart breaks. Whenever you are nervous about bringing a boy home to meet the family odds are your sister has already done it. Bring the boy to meet her first so she can give you the load down on what she thinks of him and what your parents will think about him.

10.You will have a best friend till the end of time.

You and your sister are stuck with each other till the end. How great is it that your parents gave you the best gift of all time! You are blessed with having a best friend forever. My big sister means the world to me, and there is not anything in this world that I would not do for her. While you may have your disagreements from time to time, no matter what your big sister will always be there to love and support you. She will be your best friend forever and ever!
