November 19th is not just some ordinary day. At least that’s what history has to say about it…from discovering new land, to presidential speeches, to presidential scandals, and Harry Potter, these are the random historical events that happened on November 19th.

1. 1620 The Mayflower reaches Cape Cod.

2. 1805 Lewis and Clark’s expedition reaches the Pacific Ocean with Sacagawea. Making Lewis and Clark the first European Americans to cross the west coast.

3. 1863 US President Abraham Lincoln delivers his Gettysburg address beginning; “Four score & seven years ago…”

4. 1893 The “NY World” newspaper becomes the 1st printed color newspaper.

5. 1895 American inventor, Frederick E. Blaisdell, patents the pencil.

6. 1942 Fashion Designer, Calvin Klein was born in The Bronx, New York.

7. 1951 The United States performs a nuclear test at Nevada Test Site.

8. 1953  The United States Supreme Court rules (7-2) baseball is a sport not a business.

9. 1969 Apollo 12’s Charles Conrad and Alan Bean become 3rd & 4th humans on the Moon.

10. 1970 Golden Gate Park Conservatory becomes a state historical landmark.

11. 1985 US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev meet for the first time.

12. 1993 Nirvana recorded an MTV Unplugged concert in New York.

13. 1996 Space Shuttle STS 80 (Columbia 21), launches into space. It was the mission was the longest Shuttle mission ever flown at 17 days, 15 hours, and 53 minutes.

14. 1998 Lewinsky scandal… The United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee begins impeachment hearings against U.S. President Bill Clinton.

15. 2010 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was released into theaters.
