You wowed us at Apollo Night last year, how do you define your style?I don’t fit into the Spoken Word box or the rap box, so it’s just like an expression box? Because I love the music, and I love the spoken word aspect, but it don’t think I’d call either of them my specific field.

Where do you get the inspiration for your poems? It starts in real life and then I exaggerate it. It’s definitely based in truth, but usually it’s an underlying truth. I can talk a lot about dying… a lot of mine are about people who have died, but that’s not necessarily a big part of my life. I feel like it has a lot of emotional drive… It’s more the things I say about those people that are true.

What are your future hopes for your poetry? My poetry often helps me with creativity in general. My poems come from things I’ve already written or thought about already. It’s part of a process. I hope I can keep evolving things into poetry and then evolving my poetry into other things in my life so it’s not just a performance I do once and forget about. I want to bring it more into my life.

If you could pick one professor to collaborate writing with, who would it be? That’s so difficult… the art department has a lot of cool professors. Kelema Moses. She’s just a BAMF.

You’re the VP of Delta. How are you feeling about recruitment next week? It’s a love/hate relationship. I love showing people who we are and being together and showing people that we’re real. But recruitment is on such a surface level. I wish it could be a month long survey process so they could really see it…It’s really hard. But it’s also really exciting to get people excited about Delta.

What has been your favorite part of the position of VP so far? Apparel has been my favorite… I love that people come up to me about what they want and then we see it get made. Just comparing where I am now to when I didn’t have a position, I never knew that I could have some say in apparel… It’s cool to see orders that are built from the bottom up by the organization.

What is one thing you would like to achieve in your lifetime? Just living up to my own expectations.

If you had a one way ticket anywhere, where would you go and who would you bring with you? The first destination at the airport that I haven’t been to. And I would bring Ellen DeGeneres.

What drink (coffee, tea, soda, alcohol) best describes your personality? That’s the hardest one!! Something that can mix with everything else… I keep wanting to say grapefruit juice, because it’s my favorite. Is there any drink that has a kick? Yeah grapefruit juice… Kinda sweet, kinda tangy, you can mix it with stuff… This is seriously the hardest question. Coffee? I am not grapefruit juice. Maybe cappuccino with extra foam, traditional, but kinda different… What am I?! I’ll just say coffee in general. Coffee is like your familiar friend, some people don’t like it, but overall it’s great. It keeps you awake, provides a social space, and you can have it hot or cold! Variety!

What is the biggest source of encouragement in your life/ what keeps you going? My family.

What are you most looking forward to this semester? My internship with Film-44, so I’m excited for that to keep unfolding and meeting more people who are really important!
