One of the worst things about living in a dorm is that you can’t light candles. Â Nothing makes a room feel more homey than a comforting scent! Fortunately there are flameless options to keeping your room smelling great, but those can be expensive, bad for the environment (or you!) or just plain bad. Â Why not make your own reed diffuser to make a customized scent for mere dollars!Â
Materials:Â
- Vase or other container that has a small bottle opening, make sure it is glass or ceramicÂ
- Your favorite essential oils
- Vodka and water (you can also use mineral oil but what college student has that?)
- Reeds or bamboo skewers. Â The reeds will work better and are pretty cheap and easy to find
Steps:
- Create your scent mixture by mixing approximately 1/4 cup of water, a splash of vodka and 12 drops of essential oils. Â If your container can fit more than that, just use the same proportions!
- Pour into your container.
- Put reeds in. Â After about an hour, flip the reeds over so that they are fully saturated.
- Enjoy your nice smelling room!
Tips:
- Flip the reeds about once a week for maximum effectiveness. Â
- Refill the scent mixture when you run out using the same process above. Â Wash out container if you try new oils.
- The smaller the bottle opening, the less often you’ll need to refill. Â
- Refill reeds every couple of weeks.
