It’s October and do you know what that means? It’s time to gear up for Halloween!

However, Halloween is on a Monday this year. And with Oxy being Oxy, will we have time to put away the books to celebrate?

But because we are in Los Angeles after all, this means we can get creative. Here are several things you can do in the area to celebrate Halloween, on the actual day and before:

Movies-
Nothing like getting the pants scared off you to get you ready for All Hallows Eve. Any weekend this month you can catch a new scary movie. Some to look forward to, i.e. be prepared to scream in, are Human Centipede 2 (not for the weak-hearted or squeamish); The Woman, based on the best-selling novel by Jack Ketchum, Texas Killing Fields, starring hottie Sam Worthington, a thriller about a investigation into a Texas serial killer; and the highly-anticipated Paranormal Activity 3. If it’s anything like the first two it’s definitely going to make you hide under the covers. Maybe bring that cute guy from your dorm to this one!

Also, if scary movies aren’t your thing, but you don’t mind a creepy ambiance, hit up a Cinespia screening. Cinespia shows classic Hollywood movies in the old Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Santa Monica. Check out cinespia.org for show times and tickets.

Theater-
Every Saturday night at midnight the only place for madcap entertainment is at the Nuart Theater, which hosts Sins of the Flesh, one of the longest-running Rocky Horror Picture Show casts in the country. Seeing the movie before coming is highly recommended as this show has such a cult following. Also, it’s a great opportunity to dress up in crazy costume! Be prepared. Raunchiness will ensue.

Additionally, from October 19th through the 1st of November catch the Haunted Play: Delusion, an interactive Halloween play/haunted house in a century-old West Adams mansion.

Theme Parks-
Just about every theme park you can think of in L.A. has some Halloween-themed fun for the month of October. If you have the time (and the money) check out Universal Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights, Knott’s Halloween Haunt or Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest all of which have crazy-scary haunted attractions. Also, Disneyland sets up its own fantastic decorations and attractions, including Halloween-themed changes to Space Mountain and The Haunted Mansion.

Other-
There are many other events around the L.A. area as well. Closest to home is the Old Town Pasadena Haunt, a haunted house experience, based on films and TV shows including Buffy and Haunted Mansion, inside a haunted basement in one of the oldest buildings of Pasadena. It’s been a top-rated Halloween attraction for the past 3 years.

Two other haunted attractions that have been claimed as the best in L.A. are the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor as well as Ghost Ship, a haunted attraction that takes you aboard and offshore for a truly chilling experience.

If you really just want to roll in Halloween with a crazy party then there’s Hard Haunted Mansion. Taking place on the weekend before Halloween, it’s a two-night music festival, featuring some of the best DJs in the business. Major Lazer is headlining.

Additionally, most L.A. clubs will have Halloween events on the weekend of as well.

And finally, on the day itself there is the classic West Hollywood Halloween festival. It’s a great place to go with friends, dress up and check out some fantastic street vendors and music. It holds the World Record for most people doing the Time Warp in one place.

Don’t let the Monday blues get you down. There are plenty of other days and things to do to celebrate Halloween this year!
