A foodies’ guide to Oxford: Arzoo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford chapter.

Mr Arzoo is known for serving up some of the best curries in Oxford, at reasonable prices.  This means that the majority of the time his restaurant is full of students feasting on the £13 meal deal.

The meal deal provides a wide selection of different dishes including both starters and main courses. If you are looking for quantity, this is the place to go. No one ever goes hungry at Arzoo due to the large portion sizes and the fact that if you are still feeling a bit peckish, Mr Arzoo will keep providing more food.  The staff are very welcoming of large groups and often set up tables for around 30 people at the back of the restaurant.

It is a great place to organise a crew date, as the staff are very chilled about the noisy groups of guys and girls playing ridiculous games and shouting out exploits of their crazy times at Oxford. Mr Arzoo has got it sussed; plastic glasses are provided to prevent those embarrassing breakages which have been known to result in the extra cost at the end of crew dates and everyone is allowed to bring their own bottle.

Although families have been seen to dine at this curry house, I wouldn’t advise taking yours there when they come to visit you in Oxford. It will most probably change their whole perception of the student body; they are likely to observe groups of boys shovelling whole curries down their throat in an attempt to prove their masculinity and disgusting sconces being announced for the whole restaurant to hear.

One tip if you do choose this as your crew date location; get your numbers right. Mr Arzoo has been known to ask people to leave and refuse to serve them when they have booked a table for 30 people and only 26 have turned up. So, ensure you know exactly who is coming or you could be going curry-less for the evening.
