Top 5 Food Finds for One Dollar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford Emory chapter.

As college students, we all know the struggle of wanting to make some food but being broke. Sure, there’s lils, but they’re only open during certain hours and we’re hungry 24/7. I’ve been going to the Dollar Store, Dollar General, and Dollar Tree to get some pretty decent food for a dollar.

1. Pasta

It’s easy to make a plate of pasta as long as you have a pot and water, which you can get from Oxford! The dollar stores have packages of pasta for $1, which could feed about 5 people.

2. Chips and Dip

They have packs of already-made dips, just like they have packs of dip mix to put into sour cream! For another dollar, you can just get a pack of chips to use with your dip.

3. Cookie mix

Getting cookie dough is pretty easy, but it’s also a little more expensive. Just get cookie mix, which you can simply mix with water, put them on a cookie sheet, leave them in the oven (or microwave), and you’ve got 12 cookies.

4. Candy

I know whenever I’m bored or stressed, candy is my go to! Dollar stores have an entire aisle dedicated to packs of candy for just a dollar!

5. Muffin mix

Just like with the cookie mix, dollar stores have muffin mix that you use with eggs and milk! Not only do you only need to bake them for 10-12 minutes, you can also just pop them in the microwave!
