4 Simple Things To Do on Oxford’s Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford Emory chapter.

Being a student at Oxford College of Emory University has its benefits and drawbacks. While there are small classes optimal for in-depth discussions and forming close relationships with professors, the campus is in a relatively remote location. Leaving campus to run an errand or grab food often requires a shuttle or a car; however, here are some things to do on campus to keep busy at Oxford without having to go anywhere:

1. Take nature walks. One thing that is undeniable about the Oxford College campus is its beauty. It’s filled with beautiful natural scenery and is home to many squirrels, who do not fear humans. Sometimes after staying indoors all day studying, it’s very refreshing to take a lap around campus and just take in the surroundings. Luckily, being a small campus, it doesn’t take much time to go on a journey around campus.

2. Photoshoots. Speaking of all of the nature, it would make a great background for a photoshoot. If taking pictures is your thing, then grab some friends and utilize all the pretty places on campus. Some great places to take pictures include the nature trail, the quad, old buildings on campus, and the little hill behind Murdy Hall.

3. Stay involved. There are so many clubs and organizations on campus and they’re always hosting events. Even if you’re not a member, many events are open to the general student body and often have fun activities and free food!! All clubs usually advertise their events on Facebook, so it’s a good idea to check it out whenever you’ve got time if you want to stay updated. From volunteering to art projects, there are so many interactive events that are hosted by clubs.

4. Make your own fun! While that might seem counterintuitive with this article, you can only have as much as you allow yourself to. Having a negative attitude and constantly complaining about the location about the college is not going to help your situation, but being positive and proactive will. From renting board games to movies, the library has so many resources. You can rent a study room and have a movie night with your friends with the click of a button. Also, my personal favorite, having random dance parties in your dorm is great way to let loose and enjoy yourself. Overall, it’s important to just have a positive attitude and be open to do many things.
