You’re beautiful

tear-stained face

sleep-ridden eyes

frizzy, messy hair

Maybe I am.

Perhaps, if someone loves me,

I can, possibly, be capable of

loving,

    myself.

“You can’t love someone until you love yourself.”

Well,

it’s easier to love others.

You don’t have their mind in your head,

their voice

beating you down.

You only have their sweet voice

building you up,

or

    trying.

They can’t build your self-love for you,

your bridge to who you’re meant to be.

But they can help you build the foundation,

lifting stones with you,

giving you cranes and hammers,

the tools

    to help.

Until you’re ready

to walk the bridge

of self-love,

and find them waiting

on the other side.
