Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and for some, the holiday carries negative connotations. Maybe it’s a reminder that you’re single, or you’re in a long-distance-relationship and miss your SO. If Valentine’s Day puts you in a funk, Galentine’s Day just might be the cure.Created by Leslie Knope on Feb. 13th, female friends are meant to get together to celebrate their friendships, and other special ladies in their lives. The episode of Parks and Recreation, entitled “Galentine’s Day” first aired in 2010. Since then, celebrating Galentine’s Day has become a national phenomenon, and is celebrated by women who may not have even watched the episode or the show!

There are many ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day. In Parks and Recreation, Knope throws a special brunch for all her best gal pals, and makes them gifts. But you don’t have to go all out like Knope; I like the idea of just eating waffles (Knope’s favorite food) and reaching out to all the amazing women in my life, and telling them how much they mean to me.I think celebrating Galentine’s Day is important because it makes you stop to realize just how many influential women you have in your life. I am a big believer in women supporting other women and Galentine’s Day is the perfect way to let those women know how much you love and care for them.
