Are you dreading the cutesy, romantic ways of friends and the general public on Feb. 14? Do you get nauseous at the sight of pink and red? Well, not only do you have the winter blues, but Valentine’s Day comes smack-dab right in the middle. What was cupid thinking?! Not to worry, for those of us riding the s-o-l-o train, there are plenty of do’s, but just as many don’ts for this holiday. Here is a list of things you can do to really make this holiday one to remember!

  • DO go on an adventure with a group of friends. Reserve cosmic bowling lane or go to a go-cart race track. Think of things totally off the romantic scale so everyone has fun and no one feels obligated to buy someone a drink or food afterwards!
  • DON’T go on a blind date your friend set you up on! Chances are he’s your friend’s boyfriend’s friend who’s looking for “lady luck” that night, have some dignity girlfriend, don’t let it be you!
  • DO treat yourself with some goodies! Find a salon or spa that are having Valentine’s Day offers, get pampered, relax and look good!
  • DON’T sit at home with a box of chocolates and a Ryan Gossling movie. It won’t do you any good and you’ll be mad at the five pounds of chocolate you just ate when the movie ends. Watch Magic Mike with a bunch of girlfriends instead. Have an eye candy movie night.
  • DO something active! Hot yoga relieves stress, you’ll feel good not have to worry about seeing all the cutesy couple things to remind you you’re single. You may even find a fellow single cutie that might just want to grab a cup of coffee afterwards!
  • DON’T Go out to a bar alone or even with just one other friend. You’re more than likely to spend way to much money trying to feel good and end up getting hit on by the local crazy guy looking for “Mrs. Right” and end up regretting it in the morning.
  • DO ask a good guy friend to an early dinner or to go indoor putt-putt golf. You two can spend the night together without having to worry about being romantic and you won’t have to sit alone!
  • DON’T be a third wheel. We all know how that ends up. If your best friend asks you to join, politely say no. You’ll end up feeling way worse about yourself knowing that it was a pity invite. Let’s be honest, no one wants a third wheel on Valentine’s Day.
  • DO call a friend of family member you haven’t talked to in a long time or even Skype with them! It’s always a feel good conversation to catch up with old friends. You can even have a toast!

There are plenty of interesting, feel-good things to do on Valentine’s Day. It’s not singles awareness day, as people have renamed it. Keep your chin up girlfriend, you’re single because you have standards and they should always be as high as your heels! Happy Valentine’s day!
