Snowed In

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Oswego State is no stranger to insane weather. One day it’s raining, the next it’s 70 and sunny, and then it’s an all out blizzard. The winter storm that has been hitting a majority of the northeast finally hit the land of Oz yesterday and ever since then it’s been one big white out. Weirdly enough, Oswego didn’t get a lot of snow! Our insane lake effect snow and winds (thanks, Lake Ontario) is what is really making this storm rough. But this time I can say I’m grateful for Mother Ontario because she gave me the best pre-Christmas gift a college student could ever ask for: a snow day.

When I woke up this morning to a wake up text from bae – aka Campus Alerts – saying that all morning, afternoon, and evening classes were cancelled, I was beyond ecstatic. Two of my classes had been cancelled last week due to our upcoming Thanksgiving break, but this snow day was the icing on the cake. I get to spend the day cuddled up in bed with a cup of tea, my cozy socks, and Netflix. There’s no better way to spend a snow day. After I had breakfast, my suitemate and I took the elevator up to the tenth floor and took this picture of the storm. The lake was wild this morning; waves upon waves were crashing into each other, the trees were nearly blown over, and the snow spun around in circles like mini tornadoes. It was so cool to see what the lake looks like in a storm like this. The longer we stood there looking at it, the more grateful we were that we didn’t have to trudge to class in the storm. Our prayers had been answered.

If any of you have been hit by this storm and had a snow day too, take advantage of it! Get ahead on work (or complete the work you procrastinated on), get cozy in bed, or binge Netflix all day with your friends. This was our little gift from God and spend it the way you want. It’s a free day, after all. I know I’m definitely not leaving my bed at all, except for food, of course. I’m going to catch up on some TV and school work, listening to Spotify and drinking my tea. Enjoy your day off, Lakers (and others)! We’ve earned it.
