Seven Halloween Costumes Straight from Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Picking out your Halloween costume is both the most fun and stressful part of Halloween. You want to have a kickass costume, but you shouldn’t have to break the bank to look great on Halloween. If you’re on a budget during this spooky season, here’s some costumes you can pull right from your wardrobe!

Hogwarts Student

A Hogwarts standard uniform consists of: house robes, a white shirt, a sweater (with your house colors, obvs) black pants for boys, or a black skirt and tights for girls, black shoes and a tie with house colors. But you can easily get your point across with a white button down shirt, black dress pants or black skirt, and a black cardigan. Don’t forget a tie with your house colors to show off your house pride!

Rosie the Riveter

This feminist icon is such a simple look to put together! You’ll need jeans, a jean or dark blue long sleeve shirt, a red bandana a red lipstick. Put your hair in an updo and don’t forget to strike her signature pose in all your pictures.

A Pumpkin

This costume is so simple but can look so cute! Wear all orange, and cut out black felt pieces in the shapes of a jack o’ lantern mouth and eyes. Pin them to yourself, and voila! You’re the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown

A Cowboy/Cowgirl

Want to be the rootinest tooentist cowboy/girl in the Wild Wild West this Halloween (or at least at your Halloween party)? Grab jeans, a flannel, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat. To complete the look, print out a sheriff’s badge to pin to yourself so everyone knows you’re the one in charge around these parts.

Wednesday Addams

Everyone’s favorite goth girl has a very simple outfit, making her perfect for your Halloween costume. Braid your hair into two braids hanging in front and put on your favorite black dress. Pair with black tights, black shoes, and your best scowl.

Clark Kent

The Man of Steel himself, Clark Kent is an easy costume if you want to show off your superhero side. Get Clark’s look by pairing black pants with a white button down shirt and a tie. Don’t forget your Superman shirt underneath. You never know when you’ll need to leave the Halloween party to fight crime!

Decade Costumes

Decades costumes are super easy to put together, and can be really fun to do as a group! With so many clothes being inspired by earlier generations these days, you probably have a lot of these pieces in your closet. Grab jeans, a flannel, your favorite band tee, boots and a choker for your best punk 90’s look. Are the 80’s more your decade? Pair bright colored leggings with a bright colored top, knee high socks and sneakers and you’d fit right in at an 80’s exercise class. Taking it back a few years, pair jeans with a flowy blouse or crop top and a headband for a super cute 60’s Hippie look.

If you can’t find some of these pieces in your own closet, borrow from a friend or go thrifting. Have a Happy Halloween collegiettes and stay safe this season!
