This SUNY Oswego December grad is one to miss. She’s caring, nice, sweet and a ton of fun! After working hard during her years in college, she decided to leave New York and head out west. Just about as west as you can get. To Oak Harbor, Washington. With her great personality and friendly attitude, it’s a no-brainer as to why Melissa Gorall is this week’s Campus Cutie!
Name: Melissa Gorall
Class: 2012
Relationship Status: Single
Major: History, with a Native American studies minor
What made you decide to go to Oswego?
I chose Oswego because at the time it was one of the only schools in the area that offered Meteorology. Also, the distance is perfect, it’s far enough away but close enough to where if I needed to go home quickly, I could.
What’s your favorite memory from Oswego?
My favorite memory would be any of the hockey games! It’s just such an amazing experience and it’s a lot of fun to go with a big group of friends. :-)
What do you miss most about school?
I don’t miss it at all….Just kidding! I miss actually doing something productive and I miss my friends that are still there.
What was your graduation experience like?
Graduation was exciting and scary at the same time. You think to yourself, wow, I thought it was just yesterday that I was at freshman orientation. It’s very surreal, especially after they call your name and you’re going to sit back down in your seat and they tell you to move your tassels!
What are you doing, now that you’re a college grad?
I am currently job searching and hoping that I can find something soon! It is a horrible feeling not having a job. It’s almost harder to get a job right now, especially one in my field, but I’m putting a lot of applications in, so fingers crossed for me!
Why did you decide to move to Washington?
I moved here to be closer to my family. My sister, her husband and their six kids live out here, so it’s nice to be close to them for a change. My parents and brother will also be out here by the summertime. I didn’t want to get stuck in N.Y. without anyone there, that would have been depressing. I also think that there is a better possibility for me to get a job within my field here, or even go to grad school here.
How is the state treating you?
Washington is great! The weather has been pretty decent, it has rained a lot, but there is no snow! The wind reminds me of N.Y. a bit! The views are amazing, if I look out my front window, I can see the bay and a mountain. It’s pretty. I love it here….sorry N.Y.!
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to get a job! That’s my main focus. And then I can work on getting my own place out here and then hopefully everything else will fall into place.
