Summer is over, but that doesn’t mean you have to let that bikini body slip away or those six-pack abs turn to flab.

There are several options to keep up with your physical fitness on campus. In the next few weeks I will be profiling each of these options. There will be absolutely no excuses for you to sit on your butts eating candy and drinking pop in front of the television instead o
f heading to the gym, taking a swim at lee pool or playing intramural broomball.

Glimmerglass Fitness Center is located on west campus beneath Little Page dining hall. Recently, the fitness center has been equipped with all new equipment including dumbbells with the Oswego State logo.

There are several ellipticals, treadmills, and various other cardio machines. There are over a dozen Cybex machines for legs, arms, abdominals, back, etc. For those who would rather work with free-weights, body bars, and stability balls, the group exercise floor has it all. This is located in the back of the gym, facing Glimmerglass Lagoon.

Also in the back of the gym is where the weight benches, dumbbells, cable machines and the recently added kettlebells.

If you’re not a fan of working out on your own, try one of the many group exercise programs including yoga, zumba and H.I.T.S. Maybe you just need a little motivation to get into the gym? The fitness centers offer free personal trainers with a membership. Sign up for a trainer and receive three weeks of personalized workouts just for you.

More information about membership fees and personal trainers can be found on the SUNY Oswego website under fitness centers. Have a great workout!

I am from a small town outside of Syracuse, New York. In high school, I ran Cross Country and track where I competed in the 100m hurdles, 4x1, 200m and many other events. I now attend SUNY Oswego and I am majoring in journalism and anthropology. I have recently added a minor in health science because of my passion for health and fitness. Last semester, I wrote a health and fitness blog for Her Campus Oswego. I currently work as a personal trainer on campus. I love readings, writing, skiing, running, and I am a major shop-aholic! Kaitlin Provost graduated from SUNY Oswego, majoring in journalism with a learning agreement in photography. She grew up in five different towns all over the Northeast, eventually settling and graduating from high school in Hudson, Massachusetts. Kait now lives in the blustery town of Oswego, New York, where she can frequently be found running around like a madwoman, avoiding snow drifts taller than her head (which, incidentally, is not very tall). She has worked for her campus newspaper, The Oswegonian, as the Assistant News Editor, and is also the President of the Oswego chapter of Ed2010, a national organization which helps students break into the magazine industry. She hopes to one day work for National Geographic and travel the world.
