Greek Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

For many, this week at SUNY Oswego is very exciting because of Quest day. Some students and faculty will be presenting their scholarly pursuits, while the rest are just enjoying their Wednesday off!

Every year, along with the excitement of Quest day, comes the excitement of GREEK WEEK. This is a week full of numerous activities and events within our Greek society on campus. Because our campus has over 20 registered Greek organizations, many non-Greeks might wonder, what does Greek Week entail? Who does it involves? Where does it take place? And much more.

Greek Week is a chance for all fraternities and sororities on campus to physically compete against each other and most importantly, have some fun. It is also a time where the newest members of each organization get to meet each other and get a taste of what it is to be part of their sorority or fraternity.

The events begin on a Sunday and end on that Friday. All organizations participate in the events, with sorority against sorority and fraternity against fraternity. Activities include: softball, soccer, volleyball, football, arm wrestling, dodge ball and finally, kickball. These events usually are held in Lee Hall, the softball fields and volleyball fields on campus. For members 21 and older they have events such as darts, pool, and fuse ball. On the last day they participate in a “mini” Bridge Street Run, each organization has two members per team and see who can make it through a certain amount of bars the quickest. Most of the 21 and older events take place at popular bars in town.  Each organization has their own refs and judges to make sure everything is always fair and always in order. For every event the winning teams are given first, second or third place. The overall winner is the organization with the most wins.

Like every other student on campus Quest day is a day off, for all members participating in Greek Week. Wednesday is the day where all organizations come together and just hang out, relax and enjoy there day off.

“Greek Week is just a great time for Greek life on campus. Although it does get pretty competitive at times, it is such an amazing bonding experience for everyone. We are all very supportive of every team and get very excited to meet the new people joining our community,” said a sister of Alpha Sigma Phi (ΑΕΦ).

This should be a thrilling, exciting and eventful week for all Greek organizations. We will be wishing all fraternities and sororities the best of luck and may the best teams win!
