When you begin taking planes for the first time it is such a frightening experience. For most people, the way to get over that fear is just by exposure, and though that does work, there are still some things you can do to help overcome that fear even faster.

  1. Talk to the Flight Attendants.

Flight attendants ride hundreds of planes a year and have a ton of experience on planes and dealing with plenty of people with flying anxiety. Sometimes talking to one can ease some of that anxiety and help negate some of your concerns.

  1. Take an Anxiety Pill

This may not always be an option for everyone but if you are having serious anxiety taking temporary medication could definitely help you fly without freaking out the entire time. And since this is also only a short-term method I would still recommend doing some of the other things on this list along with a prescribed pill.

  1. Watch Traveling Vlogs;

The first time I flew, I watched so many traveling vlogs, which definitely helped a ton. Seeing real-life people travel to the same places you may be going and making it safe and with ease helps you realize that a lot of your fears are pretty irrational and unnecessary.

  1.  Do Your Research

Looking at reviews and learning about the right airline to fly with helps to make you feel safer while flying. Let’s say you are really scared of turbulence, maybe flying in a bigger plane would be a better option for you. On the other hand, maybe you hate take-off, so taking a ton of connecting flights would not be the best option for you. Overall, doing research can make a big difference to how safe and comfortable your flight is for you.

  1. Avoid Negative Information

Lastly, this may seem obvious, but for some people, their anxiety gets the best of them. Instead of seeing all the things that could go right, you may be looking at everything that could go wrong. At the end of the day, sometimes things go wrong that are inevitable but also pretty rare, filling your head with only negative things will make your anxiety even worse and maybe even cause you to avoid traveling as a whole. You can not let your anxiety consume you otherwise you will never live your life. With that said my advice is to stop allowing negativity and anxiety to consume you from doing what you want to do!

Traveling is definitely anxiety-inducing, but it doesn’t have to be! With these tips, you can travel with ease especially when the holiday season is near.
