At this point in the semester, summer seems like a distant memory. You’re most likely drowning in homework, and probably can’t remember the last time you washed your sheets. But luckily, we’re more than halfway through the fall semester, and winter break is on the horizon. In the meantime, here’s a look at a the seven stages of a typical fall semester:

1. Excitement

The start of the semester is around the corner and you can’t wait to be reunited with your friends. This is the perfect time to set some goals for the semester so you can start off on the right foot.

2. Add/Drop Period

Sadly, syllabus week is over all too soon and for the next few weeks, you get to decide whether or not you’ll stick with all your classes this year. The add/drop period is a great time to open a line of communication with your professor. This way you can express any concerns you have about the class from the start.

3. Midterms

Ugh, the dreaded midterms. For some, this may be the first test of the semester which doesn’t make things any better. Luckily though, it roughly marks the halfway point in the semester. Stay strong!

4. Halloween

Two words: Free. Candy. Who doesn’t like dressing up and having a good time? Don’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself. Some of the best memories come from being young and careless.

5. Thanksgiving Break

Where did all of November go?! How is it already Thanksgiving?! I have three papers due, two presentations, and a test all the day before break. Send help!

6. Cram. Cram. Cram.

Thanksgiving is over and you now have about two to three weeks to hand in all those last minute assignments, finish the extra credit work, and study for finals. You’ll inevitably be running on empty just trying to make it to the end.

7. Finals Week

So the time has finally come. In less than a week, you’ll be done with the semester and have your life back. You know that studying now is probably a lost cause, but for some reason you’ll stay up until two in the morning cramming information you should’ve been studying all semester.
