Ever feel like you can’t communicate your love to others? Or maybe, you do communicate your love to others but want to find new ways to do so. That special person in your life can be multiple people, such as your best friends, your parents, siblings or maybe a significant other. Either way, here are five ways you can effectively show you love someone.

Write them a letter

Text and emails are a great way to communicate effectively, however letters can be more personal. While you’re in college think of writing your parents a letter to show them you care.

Frame pictures you took together

A perfect way to show someone you care is by reminding them of the memories you have shared together. On my mother’s birthday, I printed out my favorite pictures of us and made a scrapbook of our memories. Try this out for someone you love and tag Her Campus Oswego on Twitter and/or Instagram @Hercampusoswego and put #HCOZShowyourlove.

Try small gestures and just be there

Showing someone you love them doesn’t always have to be about how much money you spend. It can be the simplest gestures like holding the door open, helping your mother clean the house and listening to them when they are stressed out. By simply spending your time with someone, it shows how special they are to you.

Love yourself

You may be wondering how loving yourself can affect how you show love to your special person. Well, the answer is if you don’t love yourself how can you love someone else? Take care of your needs and look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I am good enough, I am smart, I am beautiful and I have courage” every morning and see how you feel afterwards. If you do this enough, you will start to believe yourself and things will fall into place.

Tell them “Thank You!”

My mother does a lot for me. As a single mom, she took care of all of me and my siblings’ needs. Sometimes showing your love to people such as your parents can be as simple as saying “thank you.” Express to your loved ones how thankful you are for everything they  have done for you and perhaps make a list of some of the most notable things you are appreciative of them for.
