Hats are prevalent accessories for the cold weather—but they are far from common. Below, I have outlined the top s ix styles of hats that will not only add warmth for those cold Columbus days, but also add style and flair to any ensemble. Try out these different hats to add some edge to your cold weather outfits.

#1 The Fedora
This 20th century-inspired hat has made its way into fashionista’s closets everywhere! The versatile hat comes in so many different fabrics and patterns, all of which help accessorize almost every outfit. A popular outfit to wear this fedora with is a men’s-wear inspired ensemble for the more professional look. Or pair this fun piece with simple jeans and a t-shirt to amp up your casual look.

#2 The Knitted Pom-Pom Hat
Because of the long winters we have in Ohio and the size of the OSU campus, worrying about staying stylish is not usually the first thing that students think about while preparing to step out into the cold. However, purchasing this hat will keep you cozy and cute while fighting through the snow on campus. This hat is the perfect combination of style and warmth. It helps maintain a fashionable look, even while you are walking through a snowstorm all the way across campus. Depending on the weather, you can pair this hat with a parka and knee-high boots. Or for the autumn weather, wearing this hat with a pair of jeans and a fall vest will add the perfect finishing touch.

#3 The Floppy Hat
Take this fun floppy summer hat and turn it into the perfect hat for autumn. Although these wide-brimmed, floppy hats are mostly seen on the beach or when walking on a sunny summer day, that doesn’t mean you can’t bring this fun hat into your fall wardrobe. Just make sure you put the straw floppy hats away and go more for the more seasonally appropriate (and cold weather friendly) wool or felt versions.

#4 The Beret
This French-inspired hat is one of the most wearable hats—and trust me, you don’t have to be traveling through Europe to wear it! From classic black to sequins to knit and topped with a pom-pom, the beretis in full force for fall. This hat is a comfortable fashion-forward statement for any setting, especially walking to class.

#5 The Slouchy Beanie
The slouchy beanie is rocked by fashionistas all over! This very casual hat proves that you can still look cute in more laid-back clothes; you can pair this hat with jeans or yoga pants. This hat also helps for those mornings when you wake up late for class and you don’t have enough time to shower! With the slouchy beanie, you always have a cute go-to hat, even on those sweatpants days.

#6 The Newsboy Cap
Women have taken this common male trend and made it popular for women all over, as it offers the ideal balance of sophistication and fun. The newsboy hats give outfits a vintage feel. Although this hat is made for men, women can easily add this edgy hat to compliment any casual outfit!
