After months of anticipation and planning, winter sorority recruitment is coming to an end.  For the past two weeks, OSU women have been visiting sorority houses hoping to find a group of girls to call their sisters.  Maybe you are on the fence, didn’t go through recruitment and regret it, or just want to understand why so many women go Greek every year; whatever your questions/doubts, HC OSU has the answers.

Reason #1: Sisterhood
Whether you have always wanted a sister or already have sisters at home, joining a sorority means having new friends with whom you share a special bond. Being in a sorority involves having sisterhood events each quarter, like attending fun activities at their house, or TG’s (themed gatherings).  Having 100 different girls to call your sister can seem overwhelming at first, but many women involved in sorority life find that they always have someone to confide in.  Knowing that many more girls on campus will also make the OSU community feel smaller.  If you feel like you haven’t found a good group of friends on campus yet, then joining a sorority can help you gain the friendships and support system you desire.

Reason #2: Being Involved on Campus
Contrary to stereotypes or what is shown on TV shows like Greek, being in a sorority is about so much more.  In reality, each house has its own philanthropy that helps to raise money for a cause.  Fundraisers can range from organizing a 5K run, to having a bake sale, to hosting a tournament.  In the spirit of having a unified OSU Greek community, sororities also support and attend each other’s philanthropy events.

Reason #3: Having a Home Away From Home
If you’re a freshman this year or maybe even a sophomore who still feels like something is missing, having a new home on campus can make being away at school a lot easier.  Whenever you’re feeling homesick or just want to get out of the dorms, being in a sorority means having a house of girls that you can visit whenever you wish.  Each sorority house is different, but when you find the house that is the right fit for you, you will feel right at home.

Reason #4: Making New Friends Throughout the Greek Community
Just because you join a certain sorority does not mean you are sworn enemies with every other sorority.  It is a myth that girls in different sororities cannot be friends with one another; in fact, each house works together and supports the one another in many different ways.  Houses even participate in dinner swaps where girls from each house go to the other, in order to make new friends within the Greek community.

Reason #5: Life-Long Bonds
Even when your college days are over, the sorority you joined will be with you forever.  It might sound like a big commitment to make at first, but by becoming an alumnus you will have the chance to keep alive the bonds with the women of your sorority.  Also, you will be able to form connections with women from other schools that are in your sorority.

Now that you know why so many women choose to join the Greek community, here are some outfit ideas of what you can wear for each round:

Union round

Although winter recruitment is over, if you are considering sorority life next year, take note.  For this round you should wear something more casual. Most girls wear jeans, boots, nice shirt, and a blazer. Avoid any shirts that are revealing or see through. Make sure you don’t look like you are going to a party, keep it classy.

House Tour

This round is a little bit dressier and is your first time to meet all the members of each house. You should wear jeans/dark jeans, heels, dressy shirt, and a blazer.

Philanthropy Round

During this round you can wear something similar to the last round or you could wear a skirt with tights, nice shirt, blazer, and heels or boots.

Preference Round

This round is the last round before you are done with recruitment so you want to make sure you wear something special. You should wear a sweater dress, boots, and a blazer or dressy jeans with the blazer.
