Halloween is right around the corner and that means there is still time to squeeze in a couple more Halloween movies before October ends. Movies are an easy way to get into the spirit and these movies can be easily found on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. I love a good Halloween movie as much as the next person, so here’s a rundown of my favorite, must-watch, Halloween movies.

 Beetlejuice

This is hands down the best Halloween movie, if not the best movie ever. From the plot to the characters’ crazy wardrobes, everything about this movie screams iconic. It tells the story of a couple trying to haunt their own house to get the new homeowners out of the house. It’s such a good time watching Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton together, and probably Tim Burton’s best work. The best way to watch this movie is by renting it on Amazon Prime for $3.99 and plopping down on your couch with a big bowl of popcorn.

The Evil Dead

If you’re looking for a silly slasher that looks like it had a production budget of about $50 then this movie is for you. Evil Dead tells the story of a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods for a fun weekend trip. This trip quickly turns sour, and Ash, the main character, has to fight for his life while also trying to save his friends. It’s gory and dramatic, my favorite combination for Halloween. Best watched on Netflix and with friends to comfort you during the jump scares.

Halloween

This classic is something that deserves the be watched on Halloween night. Young Jamie Lee Curtis plays this role like she was born for it. In this movie, you meet Michael Myers, as he chases and terrorizes the town. If you’re looking for an old, iconic movie, this is it.

Twitches

I used to love watching this movie ad nauseam whenever it played on Disney when I was a child. It’s a cute story, with an intense twist that keeps anyone engaged. If you’re looking for a burst of nostalgia to bring you back to your elementary Halloween days, then these two sisters are sure to give you just that. This is best found on Disney+, or for rent on Amazon Prime for $3.99.

 Nightmare on Elm Street

I saved the best for last. Nightmare on Elm Street, specifically the 1984 version, is a top tier scary movie. It also helps that young Johnny Depp is a co-star in this movie. The story is about teenagers who are being haunted by Freddy Krueger in their dreams, and you watch them try to cure themselves of these nightmares. It’s a slasher and a thriller, and just an overall, ideal film that encapsulates the best elements of Halloween. A good way to watch this is on Amazon Prime for $2.99 to rent, which is worth it in order to have a good time.

If you’re in the mood for a fun Halloween, these movie recommendations should do the trick. Not only is this better than any party, but it’s also COVID-19 friendly, and the safest way to celebrate this season.
