This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Monika Lanno is a third year student here at Ohio State majoring in Accounting. Between the intense schedule of being president of SCNO (Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations), Membership Development Chair of BUCC (Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club), a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and partaking in a new internship with Deloitte Consulting (while also maintaining a 3.8 GPA) a social life would seem impossible.  But, Monika has a few secrets she is willing to share on how to keep your future in line while also keeping your social life afloat.

HC: How are you able to have such high positions in your groups?

ML: The things I am involved in are things I am passionate about which makes me motivated to do the work enabling me to achieve high positions.  If you aren’t passionate about something, it’s VERY hard to stay motivated or to commit to it. I am motivated and enjoy doing the work that my positions entail, so it makes things a lot easier.

HC: How do you maintain your high GPA?

ML: It takes a lot of work, especially when you don’t feel like studying.  But the main thing is figuring out what you’re good at and what you are not when it comes to studying and doing homework. Figure out where you don’t get distracted, sometimes it takes forcing yourself to go the library when all you really want to do is go home and watch TV.  Make the most of your time while you’re on campus. For example, pay attention in class without distractions, that way you can cut down the time that you need to study later on!

HC:The Deloitte Consulting internship is a very competitive position in which only 1 person a year gets. What is the trick in obtaining a position such as this one?

ML: Once again, figure out what you’re passionate about because it helps you stand out among other contestants.  I figured out what I wanted to do early on, so I asked a lot of professionals in the consulting industry about skills needed for the job and made sure to develop those skills. Networking is also imperative. It provides you with endless connections to people in the professional world and can prove your credibility as well as show initiative during an interview.

HC: Since you are part of a sorority, social activities are frequently offered, how do you find time to do this?

ML: I try to do as much work during the day while on campus and schedule my week in advance so I know when I will have time to attend social activities.Â
