Local Experience Review: The 13th Floor Haunted House In Columbus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Personally, I would call myself a Halloween and haunted house connoisseur, I love anything spooky and scary. I have been to numerous haunted houses throughout my life time and decided I wanted to check out what haunted houses Columbus had to offer. I did some research and found the haunted house called The 13th Floor. This haunted house had incredible reviews, USA Today even called it, “One of the best 13 haunted house attractions in the US.” This haunted house has different locations throughout the United States as well. Some of the cities they are located in are Denver, San Antonio, Phoenix, Chicago and Jacksonville. The 13th Floor haunted house has also been featured on the Travel Channel, America Haunts, and MTV.

After reading all of this, I knew I HAD to go. Before going I decided to look into why it was called The 13th Floor. What I found out was, as you yourself may have noticed, most buildings do not have a floor that is labeled the “13th”. Thirteen is considered an unlucky number and most building owners recognize this and do not let there be this floor because it could lead to people not wanting to go there because of superstitious reasons. That is why this haunted house wanted to play on this idea, to show you just how spooky that floor could be.

Going into this experience I had very high hopes and expectations after reading all the amazing reviews. Without giving too many spoilers, I’ll give you the rundown of what my friends and I experienced. When we first pulled into the parking lot there was a person dressed in a creepy monkey costume, and it was pretty terrifying. The monkey would run around and scare you when you were least expecting it, it built up a lot of anticipation when waiting to go through. When we got into the actual haunted house you get to go through two different “scenes”. Both were equally terrifying. I was blown away by how amazing the props and scenes were set up. They did an incredible job and it all looked so real.

Overall, I think this haunted house completely lived up to its reviews and if you love haunted houses like I do, I 100% recommend it! After all, since it is spooky season, this is the perfect way to get you into the spirit! You can find out times and buy your tickets, here!
