Let me put you on to some new things I’ve discovered recently that are too good to gatekeep. Keep reading if you need a book, movie, or music recommendation, or just some beauty and life hacks.
Productivity hacks
- Start your day off by completing one small task. Checking something off of your to-do list right away will build momentum and help you stay motivated to tackle your harder tasks. This has been a game changer for both my productivity and stress levels.
- Track your spending. It is so easy, especially in college, to spend way more money than is necessary without realizing. Tracking spending can help you be aware of where your money is going and help you to put limits on certain things. A notebook or a spreadsheet will suffice for quick and easy tracking.
beauty hacks
- Keep your nails done. Even a simple color done at home can make you feel put together. Additionally, keep a hand cream in your bag so that you never have to worry about itchy or irritated skin.
- Apply dry shampoo at night and let it absorb into your hair while you sleep. This creates a more voluminous look with less of a white tint left behind. Also, if you heat style your hair, doing it at night can grant you an extra snooze in the morning. If you regularly curl your hair, sleeping on it can help to create a looser and more effortless look.
My recent music Recs
Since fall started and the weather turned colder, I’ve been listening to a lot of mellow music with poetic lyrics. Elliot Smith and Leonard Cohen have jumped into my top artists for the fall months. I’d recommend giving “Death of a Ladies Man” by Leonard Cohen and “Say Yes” by Elliot Smith a listen before fall is over.
my recent movie recs
This month I watched both of Robert Pattinson’s recent movies, Primetime and The Drama. They both had very unique and enthralling plots and compelling performances from all of the actors. I would highly recommend both of these movies if you like suspense and morally grey characters.
my most recent read
My most recent read was The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. The Virgin Suicides is a story full of complex characters that are very interesting to read about. The main plot of the novel is the story of five sisters, the Lisbons, who all commit suicide within one year. The story is told through the perspective of the neighborhood boys who are fascinated with the sisters. The book is a very complex and captivating read. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the movie by Sofia Coppola or anyone interested in unique stories of mundane suburban towns.
