How to Copy Kate’s Style and Watch the Royal Wedding in the States

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

The highly anticipated wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William is finally happening!  Next Friday, the couple, joined by 2,000 guests (including everyone from their college friends to Victoria and David Beckham), will wed at Westminster Abbey in England, and Kate will become a Princess!  For those of us who didn’t make the guest list, the wedding will be broadcast live on all major news stations.  To watch it in Columbus, tune into ABC, CBS, CNN, or NBC between 4:00am and 5:00am on Friday, April 29 for the biggest and most glamorous wedding of the year.  Before watching, make sure to brush up on your Kate knowledge below!

Who is Kate Middleton?

Kate Middleton had a fairly ordinary upbringing.  Her parents started their own party supplies company together that became very successful; the company eventually made them millionaires.  She is the oldest of three children, and attended boarding school at Marlborough College.  Growing up, she was involved in sports including cross-country and field hockey.  She began school at University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland in 2001.  She met Prince William during her first year, when they were both studying art history.  They quickly became close friends and moved off campus together along with two other friends during their second year at St. Andrews.  They began dating that year, in 2002.

Both Kate and William graduated in 2005.  They separated for few months, but eventually got back together.  After graduation, Kate worked as an accessories buyer for a fashion chain called Jigsaw, then went on to work for her parents company.

Kate and Will had a normal and relatively private relationship until they announced their engagement on November 16, 2010.  Even more since the news of the engagement got out, Kate has received a lot of press attention, especially for her chic and trendsetting fashion sense.

Get Kate’s Look

Kate’s classic style has been consistent for most of her adult life, but now, with her wedding only a week away, thousands of people around the world are waiting to see what she will wear next.  She is quickly becoming a major style icon.

Kate has always favored understated, timeless clothing.  Some of her style must-haves include dark jeans tucked into riding boots, cable-knit sweaters, fitted blazers, and oxford button downs.  She always finishes her outfits with whimsical hats and headbands.  Even under the pressure of the media spotlight, especially during recent months, Kate has stayed true to her personal style.  She is even credited with bringing the trend of riding boots to the United States!  To pull off Kate‘s signature riding boots, try Kuza Straps (they keep pants tucked into boots).
