Oh yes, it’s that time of year again, back to school. And while most people focus on how much they are dreading class, I focus on how excited I am to go back-to-school shopping. There’s nothing like hitting the books with a fresh new wardrobe. I mean, that’s the most important thing about this time of year right?
Denim
Always a staple no matter the season, denim is getting an upgrade from the crisp styles we are used to seeing. The denim of the 90s is coming in a big way and bringing overalls and high waists with it. There is even some denim-on-denim action (making sure they aren’t the same shade of course). No matter the style, just make sure you have these products in your closet.
Chelsea Girl Mod
Retro inspired fashion has not been a stranger to the runways lately. The 60’s were famous for strong yet flirty looks that have translated from the likes of Twiggy to the powerful women of today. Short numbers like shift dresses with bright colors and knee length or higher boots will add some serious girl power to your everyday wardrobe. You can even add in a little cat eye into the mix, which is an everyday staple of mine.
School Girl Pastels
The classic school girl inspired looks we all know are getting a lighter upgrade with some girly pastels. I know what you may be thinking; aren’t the feminine pastels always reserved for spring? I am here to tell you that this is no longer the case. Think Amy from Clueless but not as loud. Whether it’s a blouse or a little accessory like a headband, add a little pastel prep to your new clothing collection.
The New Short
Few girls have escaped the “go and change your shorts because the whole world can see your derriere” lecture from mom. Enter the boyfriend shorts, the way to appease your mom and still look completely stylish. Like the ever popular boyfriend jean, these shorts hang a little longer and a little looser on the body to give you that laid back, relaxed, borrowed from my boyfriend look. And the best part? These shorts can go with everything and anything you already have in your closet.
Now you have all the essentials for getting back to class with A+ style.
