Fall is finally here and it’s arguably one of the best times to be in Ohio! While weekends on campus and gamedays are always a big part of the fall, it’s also nice to go off campus and explore. If you’re looking to mix up your weekend plans keep reading to see how you can make the most out of fall in Columbus!

1. Pumpkin farmsPumpkin farms are a great way to get outside on nice fall days! Even if you aren’t taking home pumpkins yourself, there are still photo ops, hayrides and corn mazes to pass the day. In the Columbus area try going to Circle S Farm which is a short drive away from campus or visit the Circleville Pumpkin Show which takes place in October for unforgettable pumpkin displays.

 

 

2. Fall festivals

There are countless festivals going on all around the city for whatever you’re interested in doing. Oktoberfest is a great way to enjoy being outdoors in the fall and the Italian Festival always has amazing food and cultural activities to try. If you’re looking forward to dressing up for Halloween check out Highball Halloween which takes place in the Short North every year.

 

3. Apple picking

Apple picking is another picturesque way to spend a fall day with friends! Visiting apple orchards is a great way to get out of the city for the day and buy fresh food instead of being stuck with the dining hall. Even if you end up with way more apples than expected it’s just an excuse to make that Pinterest recipe you’ve been dying to try out.

 

4. Something spooky

If you’re into looking for a thrill this fall season, visiting haunted houses or going to scary movie marathons are the perfect solutions. 13th Floor Haunted House and the Ohio State Reformatory are great options if you’re looking for terrifying haunted houses and many local theaters also put on scary movie marathons!

 

5. Food festivals

Food festivals are a great way to try new local restaurants and eat some great food. Along with some of the other fall festivals offering great food selections, there are specific events dedicated to great food like BBQ, hard cider and donuts, and mac & cheese!
